6 - Introduction to Spirit

At this point I was overwhelmed, and I bet you are, too. Heck it is a life transformation, why wouldn’t it be overwhelming? I was sure that all of this was too hard for me. I was reeling and on the verge of giving up. I told my friend and he was surprisingly unsympathetic.

"Oh? Are you somehow privileged?"

"No."

"Then why should it be easy for you and hard for everyone else?"

"I never said it should be easy for me. I said it may be too hard for me."

"Yes. I heard. Let me rephrase my question. Why are you so much better than other people that they should all expect to struggle and you should expect nothing but perfection from yourself?"

"I don't expect to be perfect."

"Then why aren't you satisfied by doing your best and making little gains all the time? You see that you may not do things perfectly, progress is slow and you are already prepared to give up? Just like that. Are you too good to have to work to get it?"

He was right. I expected perfection from myself. I wasn't even aware of it. With everyone else I would be very satisfied if they gave their best. Yet, with myself I expected nothing short of perfection. If I found perfection difficult to achieve, I would give up. How silly is that?

I realize now how important it is to understand something very simple: Always do your best and be satisfied! Take what you have learned so far and apply it to your life as best you can. If you mess up so what? Hey! Tomorrow's another day, right? Don’t let yourself become stressed if you can’t always speak the truth about how you feel at first. This would be judging yourself. Do your best and be satisfied. That is all anyone should expect. We should always be satisfied when someone, anyone, gives their best. Naturally, it applies to us, too.

Never stop believing in yourself just because you find difficulties! Anyone else’s opinion about you does not define who you are. They define who they are. You define who you are! Be satisfied with your best and know that you will succeed with true commitment. Do not to take what others say about you personally. Stand your ground. Stand tall and stand proud! The spirit loves you and wants you to have a wonderful happy life! This way you can be used to help others, like I am doing with this book. I am hopefully healing others and myself. I want you to be healed if you are sick or damaged. I do not want those who are suffering unnecessarily to suffer anymore.

We should not make assumptions! Oh I was the queen of this. I thought I was so intuitive and smart that I would make so many assumptions about how people were feeling without ever even asking questions. You do not need to assume. Because assuming can lead you to believe things that aren’t true and ultimately only wind up hurting you. My friend put it this way:

"Alison. Please do me a favor and explain how the universe is supposed to be."

"I can't, I don't know."

"But you must know because you make judgments like you know all the time. Why would you make these judgments if you don't know how the universe is supposed to be?

"I don't know."

"The truth is you have never really thought about the big picture. The truth is you truly have no idea what you or anybody is really capable of. You have no idea how the universe is supposed to behave. Yet, you act like it is supposed to obey your description of it. LOL. Do you see the unmitigated conceit there?"

This was a major problem for me because I am somewhat of intuit and an empath. I have the ability to pick up what other people are feeling. By doing this I felt it was not necessary to ask simple questions because I felt I already had the answers. Yes, some of us are more intuitive then others. This makes it hard because you may feel less inclined to ask a question than somebody who is less intuitive. This was a hard lesson for me but I eventually learned to handle it like a champ! I never assume anymore. Either I ‘know’ or I don’t. This also helped me to slow down by making me realize I do not know everything! In fact I do not know anything. Spirit knows. This is where intuition and ‘knowing’ comes from. It comes only from the spirit. My friend explained it this way.

"We all have within us living tissue that has been alive nonstop for millions and millions of years. In its own way this tissue has learned massive amounts of information about itself and its environment. We also have words with a system of written logic and reason which somewhat approximates the universe objectively. Which of these two things do you think understands the universe better: the artificial language of arbitrary words, a product of a few millennia of human convention or millions of years of experiences? It is not a very difficult question to answer. Millions of years of experience trump what the cumulative human conscious mind can reason out and comprehend through a few thousand years of discussion.”

"How do we learn to use that millions of years of information?"

"Good question. It is the hardest thing and the easiest thing to do. Imagine that you have a straw and two balloons. You blow up and affix a balloon to each side of the straw so that the air flows easily from the balloon through the straw and to the other balloon. Now let’s write ‘Experience’ on one balloon and ‘Reason’ on the other. If we want the balloon marked ‘Experience’ to grow, all we have to do is squeeze the one marked ‘Reason’. As it shrinks the ‘Experience’ balloon grows proportionally. So that is the answer. Stop believing you know everything, shrink the reason balloon, and this information will become active. I call it the activation of the spirit."

Since then I have learned that when the spirit comes it will be with a feeling. The spirit can also come to you in dreams. Ever have a dream that came to pass? There ya’ go! One thing I found very interesting that I learned in dreams; it is not so much the visual events that happen but rather your emotional reaction to them that are the clues to understanding. All that the events in dreams truly show you is who you are, by your reactions.

I’ll give you an example. The other night I had this dream I was at the beach with a bunch of other people on a bright sunny day. All of a sudden I heard a whistle being blown by a lifeguard. All the people started rushing off the beach. I looked ahead and saw a huge wave rising, a tsunami. But I was not afraid. I did not run. I just stood there watching the wave rise, without fear, until it washed over me. Then it drew back and I was fine. Now, what did that mean? Did it mean that I am going to go to the beach and there is going to be an unsuspected tsunami? Probably not. But what I do know for a fact is how I felt. I felt no fear in the face of great danger. Could it be the spirit washing over me? I’d like to think it was. This happened a few days after I saw the white door. Yes, I saw the White Door and felt the spirit, and it was wonderful. We will discuss the White Door in detail very soon.

If you are able to apply this knowledge to your everyday life you will begin to have an awakening. Your mind will open up to all the knowledge of the ages rather than just reactions it has learned over the years through personal experiences. That’s an awful lot of realization at one time! A lifetime of learned behaviors masking the true self are brushed aside. It can be challenging to come to terms with. Expect this. But if you want to become a spiritual being it is going to be a lot of hard work. A spiritual being seeks personal freedom, freedom from the slavery of human reason and convention. All of the attributes I have shown you already are part of this journey, but there is still so much more. It is an exciting journey that I am thrilled to join.
