Twenty miles from anyone
Set my sights on the setting sun
Heaven talks but not to me
‘Cause heaven knows that nothing good comes free
Desolation tragedy
Is there nothing good in me?Ohio looked at the clock on the inside of her visor. “Is he dead? He’s been gone for quite some time…” she said. Before anyone could answer, there was a bright flash and the Space Pirate returned. “Oh God! I’m back! I’m back!” he yelled euphorically, making Ohio kick herself off the wall she was leaning against. “Looks like you owe me fifty bucks!” Ohio told Felix happily making Locus shake his head as he made his way to the Space Pirate. “What happened? What did you see?” he asked the man while tilting his head. “I saw… terrible things… people I’ve killed….” The Space Pirate replied, breathing heavily. “Oh man, if we’re gonna meet every person we’ve wronged or some bullshit, it’s gonna take forever…” Felix whined making Ohio agree. “Quiet!” Locus hissed at the pair. “Seriously dude, I’m talking weeks!” Felix exclaimed.
“Well, aside from his scares, his vitals seem perfectly normal” once of the scientists stated making Locus nod his head slightly. “Then I’m going in” he stated, stepping closer to the glowing bright pillar of light. “What? Now?” Felix asked, emphasising the last word, stopping him. “We’re already low on time. I can get what we came for.” Locus explained. “Bullshit! I know what this is about! How do you know I’m not the true warrior? Or Naomi for that matter?” he asked, “Because you’re you.” Locus simply stated. “I take offense in that” Ohio said with a frown. “And besides, he’s awesome! And So am I!” Ohio exclaimed, mock hurt. “Look…. Why don’t all three of us go in and let the giant alien thing decide?” Felix suggested with a sigh. “Fine” Locus said harshly. “Good. Just don’t cry to m, when you lose” Felix mocked him with a smirk. “I won’t.” Locus replied before realising what he had said. “Lose. I-I won’t lose” he stuttered as he hastily corrected himself, making both Ohio and Felix chuckle. “Too late, fucked it up!” Felix laughed before grabbing Ohio’s hand, jumping with her into the beam, Locus following soon after.
Ohio looked around the mostly empty room with a strange feeling of familiarity. “Felix!” she called, not knowing where he went. Just a moment ago, they had been on Chorus, holding hands as they jumped into the gateway. She heard an alien voice call something and she frowned. “Who are you?” it soon translated. Ohio looked around and frowned when she noticed a bed. Carefully, she started walking up to it and that was when she realised where she was. As she walked closer to the bed, she noticed a child sleeping in the bed. Her gaze softened as she recognized the small, blond boy. “Ed…” she breathed before she saw the door open, letting in a small wall of light into the otherwise dim room. A man walked in and kissed the sleeping boy on the head. “You…” Ohio breathed with resentment. The man looked at her, which felt strange. She looked over at the door to see a small figure standing there. “Daddy? Are you going somewhere?” the small girl asked, but the man didn’t answer, he just straightened himself and walked out of the room, past the girl. Ohio bolted after him but as soon as she left the room, the scenery changed.
She was standing in the middle of a field and watched as the boy and the girl from before was racing up a hill towards a house. “You’ve gotta be faster than that Edward!” the little girl called after her brother. Ohio tilted her head, a feeling of deja vu washing over her. “Mom!” they called once they reached the house. “Ed! Talia!” the mother chimed happily as the two children hugged her legs. “Look mommy look!” Ed exclaimed happily, showing her a small wooden statuette, the younger Talia presenting her with a similar one. “Oh amazing!” the mother exclaimed. “Yeah… I just wish I could show dad when he returns” Ed said sadly, making the young girls’ face go red with anger. “Don’t you talk about him! That bastard” He will never come back, don’t you understand!” she yelled at her brother, tears in her eyes. “Talia…” her mother tried but the girl just shook her head and ran inside. Ohio quickly followed her past self, regretting it immediately.
What she saw once she entered the house was something she had tried so hard to forget. The little girl ran out from her hiding place with tears in her eyes as she raced to her mothers’ bloody corpse. “Mom! Mommy!” the girl cried as she shook her body, soon turning to her younger brother. “Ed!” she called as she saw him stir. “T… tal-…” he stuttered, not able to form a proper sentence. Soon his eyes grew dull, and she could see the life drain out of him. “No… Ed… Edward!” she yelled before she just started screaming. An ice-cold scream that sent shivers down Ohio’s spine. “Damn you dad! You bastard!” she screamed. “It’s all your fault!” she continued before she broke down sobbing. “Ed… mom…” Ohio whispered as she fell to her knees. She looked to the memory of her mother’s corpse and jumped once it moved to look straight at her. “You couldn’t save your mother or brother. You worthless child!” it laughed and soon she found herself somewhere new; Chorus again.
She looked around and it looked like she was just outside of the portal, but there was no one else there. “Felix!” she called out, panicked. “Sh… I’m here…” he said as he stepped out from behind a crate, helping her stand up. “Felix…” she breathed, relieved, but it was short lived as a shot echoed through the air, hitting Felix in his visor. “No!” she screamed, making Felix cock his head to the side, while Ohio fell to her knees again. “What’s the matter? Is this really that big of a surprise?” Felix asked as he began circling her. “It’s all about the facts dear… You could not stop your father from abandoning you, fact. You were the reason he left, fact. You’re the reason your mother and brother died, fact. You could have stopped it but you did not, fact. Now? Do you really think that you will be able to keep me alive? That I will stay by your side? Oh you miserable little girl… you are nothing. You can’t do anything but watch the people you love either leave or die! So…” He said as he stopped pacing and stood in front of her, cocking his gun. “You should die before you kill anyone else!” he said as he fired at her, making Ohio scream.
“Where is she?” Felix asked, worried. “We got out five minutes ago!” he exclaimed and grabbed one of the scientists by their collar. “Get her out. Now!” he said, raising one of his fists in a threating gesture. “I can’t!” the scientist exclaimed and was relieved when Ohio emerged. “Talia!” Felix called and rushed over to Ohio who was screaming her lungs out. “No, get away from me!” she told him and he backed off, looking at her. She covered her face with her arms. “What did you see?” Felix asked her with a frown. “I can’t breathe….” Ohio said as she scratched at her chest. “Whoa… what’s going on with her?!” he yelled at the same scientist he threatened before. “I think she’s having a panic attack….” A voice Felix did not recognize said. “She has an AI…” Locus said, surprised.
Felix turned and looked at Ohio, seeing a small red hologram by her side. Felix sighed and his gaze softened as he kneeled by Ohio’s side. He removed her helmet and then his own. “Calm down… It wasn’t real…” he said and she finally looked up at him. “F-Felix?” she sniffled and he nodded. “I’m here” he said with a sad smile on his lips. She quickly wrapped her arms around him and held him so tightly; he thought he would pass out. “Hey, easy…” he said and stroked her hair, which seemed to calm her down. “What did you see?” he asked her and she just shook her head. “It’s okay, you know. It can’t hurt you anymore. Nothing can hurt you as long as I’m here…” he whispered in her ear but she just held onto him, sobbing softly. “Everyone, pack up. Leave no evidence that we were here” Locus told everyone before looking at Felix and Ohio. “You two, hurry up and get on a pelican.” Locus said, earning a glare from Felix. He sighed and picked up his helmet, putting it on. He grabbed Ohio’s helmet before scooping her up, carrying her bridal style to the nearest pelican.
I’ll take your word for it
‘Cause after all you’ve never lied
Oh not at all
But look at me
Oh what a mess
I get caught up in the things that matter the least
Oh let me have release
