I wake up hearing voices. I try to open my eyes or move something but everything hurts. I finally get one of my eyes open and see that I'm in a white room. I'm laying on a bed and there is a tv in the corner of the room. I turn to my right and see Miranda talking to what I think is a doctor. I turn to my left and see Lucas sleeping in one of the chairs.
Miranda must have seen me move because she comes up to me." Oh sweet heart your awake" she says as she takes my hand. "This is Dr. Sam" she points to the doctor.
"What am I doing here?" I whisper in a raspy voice. Miranda grabs a cup of water and let's me drink from it.
"Do you remember? You called me at 1 in the morning pleading for me to get you because of your father and when we did you were in bad shape and had a panic attack as we took you to the hospital."
"Oh" I say as I remember what happened last night.
"Hey why don't you go back to sleep and we can talk a little later ok" she kisses my head and I close my eyes and fall back to sleep.
****
I wake up again feeling a little better but still can't see out of my left eye. There's light trying to come in from the blinds. I try to grab the cup of water but someone beat me to it and press it to my lips. I drink some and see Miranda putting the cup back down.
"How are you feeling?" She stokes some hair out of my face.
"Horrible. " I look around. "Where's Lucas I saw him when I woke up the first time."
"I finally got him to go home. He wouldn't leave you but I told him to go home and I'll call him when anything happens." I nod and then I remember:
"Is the baby ok?" I say panicked. Miranda's face soften and she takes my hands.
"Sweetie I'm sorry but they couldn't save them in time." She tells me slowly.
"What do you mean them? I was only having one!" I panic.
"Well you were expecting twins.but they didn't make it sweetheart"
"No no no no no that can't be!! I just went for a check up they would have told me if it was twins!!!" Yell and start to cry. Why do bad things happen to me? I find out I was actually having twins and then loose them. I was only two months they had so much more growing to do.
"I'm sorry sweetheart. They must have not have detected the second one. I'm so sorry." Miranda hugs as I cry. Even though they were going to be my father's kids I still miss them.
There was a knock on the door and I look up to see the doctor I saw earlier. He checked my chart then my vitals to make sure I was doing better.
"Hello Jessy I'm Dr. Sam." He begins to list my injures: broken ribs, a concussion, sprained ankle, bruises around my neck, face, arms, legs, torso, and a black eye.
"I need to talk to you about what happened last night. I need to know how you got here. I know you may not want to remember but it is important that you do ok" I look at Miranda and I nod. He steps out for a moment and comes back in with a police officer.
"Jessy this is Officer Graham you can tell him ok just take your time. I have to go but I'll be back in a little while." He leaves and leaves me with the police officer and Miranda.
"Mrs. Busker here told me that when you called her you were talking really fast and panicked and that she heard struggling, screams and a male voice on your end of the line. Was that male voice your father?"
"Yes"
"Ok will you like to tell me what lead up to that phone call."
I nod," I just came back from Miranda's house because they invited me over for a barbecue. When I got home it was pretty late and dad was already drunk when I got there."
