"I told you I wasn't lying, Peter!" Lucy's voice was indignant, but it didn't quite break through the shock that was still settling in the older four - except for Edmund, apparently. He looked rather nonplussed by the whole situation.
"I don't suppose an apology would quite cover it?" Peter's voice was apologetic. They'd clearly all thought their sister was mad as could be when she told them about the 'land in the wardrobe', but apparently, she'd been telling the truth.
"I don't think so." Lucy's voice had quite the evil undertone, and Phoebe understood why as soon as she saw a snowball explode to pieces right on Peter's side. "Although, that might!" Lucy's voice was full of cheer - clearly, she was happy to be taken seriously for once.
"Alright, you're on!" Peter bent down to scoop up another handful of snow to hurl at Lucy, but before she could watch him throw it, Phoebe herself was hit right in the back. She pivoted to see Susan grinning at her, before she glared at her.
"You're really in for it now!" Years of throwing snowballs at statues had made her aim and craftsmanship rather above average, Phoebe liked to think. Susan ran behind a tree, hiding from the onslaught that was clearly about to head her way.
"Ow!" A loud exclamation from Edmund distracted the fun, and suddenly Peter's eyes narrowed.
"Edmund! You little beast!" Peter stormed over to him, clearly rather angry about something. Looking around, Phoebe saw that Susan had emerged from her hiding space.
"What's going on?" Susan's eyes flashed over to her brothers for a moment - Peter was now saying something about 'apologising to Lucy'.
"Oh, Lucy told us Edmund had come to Narnia with her, but he said he was just playing along. I suppose he wasn't." Susan's gaze was scanning their area in quick strokes. Clearly, she was nervous, or uncomfortable, or just plain afraid.
Phoebe didn't exactly blame her. After all, they'd just discovered an entirely new world in the back of a wardrobe, for Christ's sake.
"Peter, are you sure it's safe here? Shouldn't we just go back?" Susan's voice was filled with worry, the protective tone of a sister who was used to keeping her siblings in check. Phoebe could see Peter's gaze cloud with understanding, and his brow furrowed.
"Susan, at least meet Mr. Tumnus! Please, Susan, please!" Lucy's little voice was pleading, and Phoebe could see Peter being torn between the two choices - the one he knew would keep his family safe, and the one which would take them further into this potentially dangerous mystery land. "It's safe with Mr. Tumnus, I promise. He has tea, and biscuits, and oh, the most wonderful stories! You have to come, please!"
"I suppose it is Lu's decision. We were the ones that doubted her, after all." Lucy's face absolutely lit up when he said that, and Peter shot Susan (who was now glaring at him) a look as if to say 'I'm sorry, I had to' before walking back to the wardrobe to fetch them coats. He passed Susan two, one for her and Phoebe, not bothering to spare Phoebe a look. How chivalrous.
