‘’ always have sharp claws beneath your flaws”

I woke up in the morning still tired, but I took a quick shower, luckily I had been to a
boarding school in high school. I missed my mum back home but she was one of the demons that I had been running away from, not that she was bad on the contrary she was an angel in the shape of my mom. It was just sad that she was the one person I loved, whose decision of happiness had become one of my demons and the monsters I had to cage. As much as I hated it I just had to cope up with university life, because it was either school or the choice between a hard place which was my father’s home and a sharp edged rock which was my mother’s home. I quickly got ready for class, I was already late for the semester, wouldn’t want to be late on my first day of class too.

Angela walked to the school cafeteria with me and also to the corridor of the class which would be my main class until I graduated. “There is your class, I will see you during lunch time.” she said with a smile on her face then she walked away. I was nervous about going into the class room but when the siren rung I grew courage and walked in, maybe it was because many people too were rushing to their various classes. Everyone was staring at me in a weird way as I stood by the door looking for an empty seat, I was really nervous but that wasn’t an unfamiliar feeling. All the seats were taken apart from one that was at the back, I walked straight towards it but one moron with afro hair put his foot in my way and I almost fell down. Everyone in class looked rude apart from a friendly fellow who sat next to the empty seat that was at the back, he looked like a nerd and he had bad taste in fashion. He actually reminded me of the person I was in high school, well maybe the person that I still was.
The biology lecture had long begun but some students were murmuring and still chatting, Angie had been right about me having so much work to catch on.

Hardly had I taken out my phone from my pocket to check a message on my phone when I heard, “Michael!” the lecturer suddenly shouted. The whole class became as quiet as the moment before an explosion, everyone in class turned looking in the direction of a guy who had been chatting and flirting with a certain girl. “What are you and Thelma laughing about, I warned you several times about disturbing my lectures didn’t I?” the old looking male lecturer shouted really angry.  You could even hear a pin drop, as the classroom was filled with solemn silence. The lecturer sighed then said, “Michael, gather all your materials and switch seats with Gerald and from today onwards this will be your permanent seat, for the rest of this semester for as long as you attend my lectures.”
Michael hesitated, for whoever this person was, he had the worst guts ever.
“Michael! If you don’t want to comply, can you please walk out of my class and deregister this course” the lecturer gave a warning.

At last Michael gathered his materials and stood up furiously, everyone in class apart from us the back sitters, were turning their heads to witness the drama. Shockingly my neighbor gathered his materials and belongings too, I would have never guessed that his name was Gerald,
The Michael guy walked out from his bookrack and threw his books on the floor and sat on the chair next to me after Gerald left, why eyes were focused on the lecturer so i didnt see his face. I didn’t know why but I felt a shiver down my spine, and it gave me goose bumps which was strange because the sun was at the peak of its blaze. I was really curious to know what the Michael guy looked like, I stole a quick glance but I wasn’t successful because he had looked the other side. Thelma kept looking behind, I wondered how she didn’t get her neck tangled up. I could see anger on her face, and I guess she wasn’t any happier about the whole idea of her boyfriend or flirt mate as I assumed, sitting next to me. Thelma glared at me and then turned back and faced the lecturer.

I felt awkward sitting next to Michael because he couldn’t face me or say anything.  After an hour the biology lecture was done, but surprisingly the lecturer didn’t leave the class. Just when I wondered more, I saw a projection of chemistry on the board and soon I confirmed that the same lecturer would be taking us in chemistry too.
