“Sometimes we don’t notice the people who like us because we are too busy liking the people who don’t notice us”
I missed class on Monday to give myself time for recovery, Angie did some inquiries for me and confirmed that I hadn’t missed out on a lot and that no quiz had been given. Chloe had gone back to Lusaka the previous day, the room rather felt awkward without her but she really had to leave. I liked Chloe a lot, the few days I had spent with her made me know her better and realize that first impressions were not always right. Henry kept on calling and texting me but I didn’t pick up his calls and blocked him on all social media. He kept sending me SMS, telling me how sorry he was for being a jerk and that he had taken advantage of my friendship and just
wanted one more chance to redeem himself. He also said that he said all those shitty things because he had been smoking weed before coming to the pub and he just lost it when I turned him down. Angie told me to hear Henry out and clear the air with him, because we were in the same class and it would be awkward being enemies when we had been such good friends. Angie was really wise so I reconsidered and decided to meet up with Henry after supper, I told him to meet me outside my hostel because after the previous night‘s incidence just didn’t trust him anymore.
I went for supper at the school Gazebo with Angie and Derrick, we always used the Café for lunch then Gazebo for supper. Henry texted me saying he was outside my hostel so I ditched the love birds and went to my hostel, I just had to settle my issues with Henry. I reached my hostel in no time, Henry’s car was packed right outside the entrance of the block where my room was so I walked to him.
“Hey Muwe, I actually thought you wouldn’t come.” He said to me calmly.
I went and leaned against his car, “Angie thought it would be best if we cleared the air.” I said to him frankly.
“Why so cold? Don’t tell me you’re still not over what transpired the previous night, I said I was sorry.” He said with a chuckle.
I glared at him, “you only said sorry because Michael made you to, you kept insulting me even after he told you to apologize.” I said really upset.
“No wonder I’m here now, I want to apologize for being a jerk towards you.’’ He said with a little remorse as he tried to hold my hand. I moved back preventing him from touching me.
“What can I do to win back our friendship, I miss you so much.” He complained, “I just don’t want us to be enemies when we were such good friends.”
“If we were such good friends, you wouldn’t have stepped on your boundaries. I trusted you, but you let me down and I just don’t think I want people like you in my life anymore.” I said to him, I really felt betrayed.
“Come on Muwemi! Be mature and let bygones be bygones.” Said henry.
“You are the one who should act mature and understand that we can’t be friends anymore. Yes, I will let bygones be bygones, Bye now be gone.” I said with sarcasm.
Henry suddenly moved closer to me and grabbed me by my jaws forcing me to kiss him but I resisted and pushed him way, “stay away from me you pig!” I yelled at him.
He chuckled, “I love how cute you look when you’re upset, just gives me a Bonner.” He whispered trying to kiss me again.
I stepped back as quick as I could, “Stay the fuck away from me! Don’t you try to touch me or else I will--.” I started but he interrupted me.
“Or else what! Are you going call the police, or maybe you going to call your super hero Michael?” he said with a sarcastic chuckle, “we both know the police will not do anything, because they know you’re a magnet of bad luck and your savior Michael is probably having a three some with some campus girls right this moment. I was with him an hour ago at the pub and we were drinking together like brothers do. Haven’t you ever asked yourself why every guy who gets close to you only wants to screw you.” He added.
I was really furious, “that’s a freaking lie you pervert, and I won’t let you make me feel bad about myself because you don’t know me!” I yelled.
“I feel sorry for you Muwemi, because you’re really unlucky. Even the people who
protect you plan on hurting you, did Michael tell you that he betted on you?” he asked me. I was really shocked, I didn’t understand what Henry meant and I didn’t want to.
“Yes! Michael and I betted on you that night, he would have been the one screwing you that night if I hadn’t won.” He explained. I didn’t want to hear any more of what Henry had to say so I walked away, I didn’t care where I was going as long as it was far away from Henry and everyone else.
