Xian Xue and Yan Zhu were sitting on a cliff on a mountain side by side warching the scenery. This was a habit of theirs. Not a regular one, but one they had done many times before.
Yan Zhu wondered something suddenly. She looked over at him and askd. "How old are you?"
Xian Xue looked at her and blinked. He didn't understand the question. He didn't know or remember how he was created. He just remembered always existing. He didn't understand the concept of time. And so he didn't answer her, but just starred at her waiting for her to say something he understood.
"Why arent you answering?"
....... Still no answer. He honestly didn't understand what she was asking. He continued to stare into her eyes.
Suddenly, she leaned in quickly and planted a kiss onto his lips. She didn't know why she had been so impulsive and brash. She just wanted to break the silence. They had spent so much time together and yet she felt that he was still such a mystery to her. It was quite clear that they cared for one another. But he drove her mad sometimes. It was as though time meant nothing to him. He would have sat for hours just staring at her if she hadn't broken the silence with her kiss. It was just a quick peck, but it did not have the affect she was intending. He looked at her shocked for a few moments and then quickly returned to his bird form and flew away, as though fleeing a predator. Yan Zhu was so shocked by the sudden and negative reaction that she just sat there dumbfounded for a few moments wondering what went wrong. She then grew angry at his reaction and embarrassed by her action. Perhaps she had overstepped. Perhaps her friendship was much more delicate than she had believed. Her anger turned to fear. Had she just lost her only friend? She suddenly felt hurt and a little lost. She didn't move from where she sat at the cliff, but instead pulled her knees up wrapping her arms around her legs and resting her chin on her knees while she looked on at the hills for a long time.
Xian Xue on the other hand was feeling calm again. Earlier, he had felt something he had never felt before. He truly liked Yan Zhu. In fact, he really liked her and how he felt when he was with her. It was fun experiencing human feelings, but sometimes these feelings confused him. He didn't know what to do with them or how to react to them. They made him feel giddy, lightheaded. These feelings were simply alien to him, not unwelcome, but overwelming. So he flew away to ponder these feelings and let them sink in. Since time meant nothing to him, he didn't consider how long it might take or how it might affect others. He simply did what his mind and heart felt. He wanted to be alone with these new feelings. To soar along the sky line while his heart soared as well.
