Phoebe's POV
"Are you sure it's all settled, Mary?" I asked in a voice full of hurry and anxiety.
The most glamorous event of the year was about to take place and I was in charge of it. The Christmas event the company held annually was due to come and everything and by everything I mean, everything had to be perfect.
When I asked Mitchel for a plan or just something to start with he simply stated. "Improvise." with this characteristically smirky face of his.
"Did you check the lighting?" I asked the girl again who sighed at my frustration and anticipation.
"For goodness sake, Phoebe, I said everything and lighting are included in everything," Mary answered while her small figures carried empty boxes around. I helped her tidy the space a little and then opened the huge Gala Room wise open to being greeted with an astonishing view.
Literally amazing. I suddenly felt so confident and proud of my work. Just the thought of satisfying the obnoxious businessman by the name of Mitchel Cave boosted my confidence very much. However, the humane Mitchel Cave was easy to please. Just a little bit of seduction and voila you have it.
"I see you did an amazing job," I told Mary that looked me with awe in her eyes. The view was truly magical, like it came out of a frosty fairytale, dressed only in black and every shade of blue.
"Not without your instructions, Phoebe," Mary said and I grinned widely at her. It's so nice to hear good words for the work you do. "You know, all the staff admires you for taming ...him." Her voice came out slow with fear notable in her voice. Also, her finger indicated at the corridor that leads to nowhere else rather than Mitchel's office.
My eyes traveled from the pathway back to her with a satisfying grin following them. "He's not that bad." I felt like I have said that again. I truly meant it now, though. Mitchel is far from bad, Mitchel is perfect. His negative and positive traits have been combined to create something perfect.
"Whatever you say, Phoebe. You know how many people he had fired because of the simplest blemishes. Maybe you know him better since you work together. But when Anna was in your position she kept on saying that he's one of the most obnoxious people she's ever encountered." Mary finished talking and raised her eyebrow suspiciously at me.
"I have my way with people," I told her buying my lip, something I do when I am nervous. Mary's expression loosened up and a smile took place. Phew...
"Hey girls, how are things going on with the project I gave you?" Mitchel said, popping out of nowhere right in front of our faces while two minutes later we were talking about him. Timing.
"Everything's settled. Phoebe made an excellent job this year and was so cooperative." Mary explained avoiding eye contact with him as if he would bite her. Was he that scary to his employers?
"Really?" Mitchel said while was about to open the door that leads to the Gala room."
"Mr. Cave, we would like to keep it a surprise for you, please," I said trying to prevent his curious glance to go into the room. It was only a few blocks from the company and that was why it was so easily accessible.
Mitchel held a weird glance in his eyes. A mixture of confusion and curiosity. "Why is that so Ms. Martin?" He asked with a stern voice and also crossed his arms over his chest.
"There is a little more details to be added." I also wanted to add that I'd love to watch his surprised face but in front of Mary's eyes that would sound very strange. Like from since am I talking like this with my boss?
Mitchel sighed probably he knew that no matter how much his insisted my stubbornness would win the battle. "I hope everything's absolutely perfect and you're not hiding anything." And with that, he left the entrance room that with little walking you could enter the Gala.
Finally, he left. "It's a miracle that he subsided so easily," Mary said with a grin that indicated success on her face. We both agreed that we should keep it a surprise for him. Such an excellent work would only be greatly admired under the dim lighting of the night sky.
