When Kiki made it home, Jeremy was about to tell her goodbye, Kiki just wouldn't let go of his hand.
"Ki?" He asked, looking up to meet her eyes, she didn't want to raise her head to meet his.
"Can you stay for a little bit?" She asked quietly, refusing to meet his eyes. Jeremy smiled at her, putting a hand on top of her head.
"Of course, wanna watch some tv and eat all the snacks in the house?" Kiki finally looked up, smiling widely at him.
"You always know what I'm thinking..." Kiki smiled, dragging him inside and plopping him down on the sofa so that she could go and grab the oreos and soda. She threw some popcorn into the microwave, and hunted down the ice cream.
"Happy or scary?" Jeremy asked from the living room. Kiki thought for a few moments.
"Scary!" She called back, pulling out the spoons and returning to the couch where Jeremy had gathered blankets and everyone of the remotes.
"Okay, I've got a few different options, how scary do you want?" Kiki once again thought before she just pointed at a random title.
"That one looks good." Jeremy nodded, selecting it and settling deeper into the couch, Kiki laid down against his shoulder, cuddling with her best friend. Jeremy felt her hair brush his shoulder and chest and he felt his heart ache, knowing that he was feeling love for someone who would never return his feelings.
They just sat like that, eating everything they could get their hands on and watching every scary movie that looked even somewhat good.
The door finally opened a few hours later, revealing a tired looking Devin, he must have just finished at the gym. Kiki looked up at him, watching him take his coat and shoes off. She figured she should probably say something to him, so she opened her mouth and said the only thing she could think of.
"Welcome home, Devin." He looked up at her, grunted, and walked upstairs to his room. Kiki saw Jeremy roll his eyes and she smiled shyly at him, feeling the same way.
"Anyways, I guess it's about that time again..." Jeremy tried to fill the silence, Kiki nodded, knowing that it was getting around the time that her best friend would have to return home to his own family.
"You're right, I'll see you tomorrow at school." Kiki answered, stretching out and letting all of her body, hearing the bones crack. As Jeremy gathered his stuff, Kiki put away the snacks and cleaned up the living room. Her dad did always like to keep things tidy, so she made sure to do what she could to help. Finally, she saw Jeremy off at the door, waving as he walked down the street to his own house.
After the door closed Kiki let out a sigh, running her hand through her hair. She made her way upstairs and decided on a shower. She was just about to turn on the water when the doorbell rang. Her eyebrows furrowed, wondering who would be visiting at nearly 10 at night. She rushed downstairs to answer it, and saw Devin step out of his room, looking just as confused as she was.
Kiki rushed down the stairs and looked out the window next to the door, her eyes widened as she saw two uniformed officers.
"Devin, you might want to come down here..." Kiki said nervously, looking at him at the top of the stairs.
"What? Who is it?" He asked walking down the stairs to join his "sister." Kiki opened the door, looking at the two men nervously.
"Can I help you?" She asked, both of the men showed their badges and asked if they could come in and speak with the two of them. Kiki looked at Devin, who just nodded and opened the door a little wider.
