Kiki's eyes didn't want to open, her whole body felt heavy, and every part of her wanted to just lay there like that. She stirred to consciousness as she felt a warmth beside her.
Her chocolate eyes opened, and she had to blink a few times before she could focus. She saw Jeremy's form, slouched in the loveseat playing on his phone
"Jer?" She asked, not knowing why he would be here. The taller boy perked up at her voice, setting his phone to the side and handing her a water bottle. She took a few quick gulps, smiling her thanks. "Why're you here?" Kiki asked, tilting her head in that cute way she always did.
"Your bro- Devin asked me over, said he didn't want you to wake up alone." Jeremy explained, Kiki felt her face heat up, and she tried to tell herself it was cause she was annoyed, not touched at the sentiment.
"I don't need a babysitter." She seethed, crossing her arms in a cute pout. Jeremy tried to take her seriously, but it was hard when she looked like a child. Kiki dug around for her phone, trying to find in amongst the cushions covering the couch. "Anyways, what did he have to do? I'm hungry..." Kiki said, as though those things were related.
"Well, lucky for you, I have brought over just the solution to that problem." Jeremy stated proudly, Kiki got nervous.
"Please tell me you didn't cook anything." She was completely serious, sniffing the air for the smell of burnt food, or house, or person. Jeremy had a talent for burning anything within the vicinity when he was cooking.
"First of all, Fair. Second of all, Rude." He joked, smiling. He was happy to see that Kiki was at least showing some kind of emotions, even if it was teasing the boy. "Lastly, you better play nice, cause mom made her casserole, and I don't have to share." He said proudly. Kiki's face brightened, and she folded her hands as though praying.
"I take it back, or wonderful bringer of the food, please let me have some!" She joked, although she would do just about anything for that tater tot goodness.
"Yeah yeah, you only love me for my food." Jeremy joked, standing and going to the kitchen to pop in it the oven to heat up. He then grabbed a couple of sodas and made his way back to couch, sitting down next to the girl. Now that she was sitting up, there was plenty of room for the two of them. He sat with nearly a foot of space between them, and it was only a few moments before Kiki moved closer, leaning into him.
They flipped on the TV, and Jeremy tried to focus on anything but the way that his beautiful best friend breathed. Or the length of her dark eyelashes, or even the way her tightly curled hair fanned across his shoulder where she leaned.
He was in so deep, and he didn't know how he was ever going to get out of it. He wanted to tell her, he had for a long time. But now, he knew that was the last thing she needed. So he would just be there for her, support her as her best friend, and bide his time.
"I have to pee." She said, pulling him out of his thoughts. He snorted a laugh, wondering how he could find her saying that cute. "I'll bring some blankets down when I'm done." He just shooed her to the bathroom and went to check on the food.
Kiki was content, she was feeling a lot safer than she thought she would, calm even. She wondered if it would last this time. She could smell the food from the kitchen, and her mouth watered at just the thought of it.
Jeremy and her flipped through the list on netflix, trying to find something interesting.
"I have to pee." Kiki announced, knowing that if she stood up now, Jeremy would ask where she was going anyway. "I'll bring down some blankets when I'm done." She finished, Jeremy just waved her off, standing himself and going to the kitchen.
