"Kiki! Get your ass up!" Called an annoyed voice, Kiki managed to dig her way out of the pile of blankets, throwing a few on the ground.
"M'coming." She muttered, wiping her eyes and looking around the room. The sun was barely coming through the curtains and Kiki couldn't see nearly anything, and she stumbled through the room trying to find the light switch.
"Kiara!" The angry voice screamed again, and the teen girl opened her door and yelled back out.
"I heard you, you obnoxious brute!" As soon as she said it, she regretted it. She was met with the sight of a muscular chest, with a few tattoos scattered across it. She raised her eyes to meet dark piercing ones, a scowl on the face.
They had been living together for almost two years now, but Kiki wasn't sure she was ever going to get used to having a boy in the house. Let alone a step brother like Devin. He was rude, brash, and uncaring, yet there was something about him that kept Kiki from hating him.
"Brute? You don't know the half of it, little sis." He winked, Kiki flushed red, but responded with a gag and an eye roll.
"Shut up, and move, I need to brush my teeth." She pushed him out of the way and shut the door to the bathroom. Placing her hands on the sink she looked in the mirror and let out a sigh. After examining her reflection for a few moments, she turned away and started the shower.
Kiki was a medium sized girl, her skin was a light caramel colour and her hair fell in tight curls down to brush the top of her shoulders. Hopping into the boiling shower, she washed quickly, knowing that she was probably already running very late to school.
As she finished her shower she brushed her teeth, and hair at the same time, trying to throw her hair into a tight ponytail. Not that it ever did what she wanted it to.
Then, still in her towel, she scooped up her pajamas and rushed to her room. Picking out the first pair of pants and shirt she set her hands on. It was a pair of light coloured blue jeans and floral tank top. Finally, she unplugged her phone and glanced at the screen.
12 unread text messages.
Just as to be expected from Jeremy. She opened them up and scanned them, they all said relatively the same thing. Wondering where she was, what was taking so long, yada yada. She sent him a quick text back saying that she was on her way now. Right as she hit send she ran into him in the hall.
"Jeremy, how did you get in?" She asked, not really sure she wanted to know the answer. He let out a chuckle and held up a key.
"Your parents gave me a key a couple of weeks ago. They said since it was getting cold out, I should wait for you inside. You know, because you are never ready on time." Kiki would say he was exaggerating, but she really didn't wanna lie to herself like that.
"And yet you still come to get me." Kiki answered, brushing past him to throw on her coat before leaving. "You must really like me, huh?" She joked, smiling back at him. He whispered something under his breath that Kiki didn't quite catch, but she wasn't so sure that she wanted to.
"Let's just get to school before we both end up in detention." She couldn't argue with that.
They walked and talked as they made their way to school, Kiki not even seeming to take a breath, and leaving Jeremy laughing so hard he had to grip his sides.
It was so comfortable with him, he was the only boy that Kiara could even bear to speak to. Something about him was just so soothing, so reassuring. He was nothing like that asshole of a step brother she had at home, or any of the boys they went to school with.
