Finding

‘Nothing is more nerve racking then finding yourself among lost memories…’ –Writhen D.H.

“So the only thing you can remember is sitting in front of Night Owl this morning?” Nine asked as she brought over a plate of food for me and herself. Talent, Nine and I were sitting her small breakfast nook table chowing down on bacon, eggs and hash browns while we discussed my situation.

“Correct,” I stated after swallowing down some orange juice. “I had a splitting head ache and I couldn’t remember anything. I didn’t even know where I was, I was checking my pockets and trying to gain my bearings when Talent came out of the bar cussing up a storm.”

“Sounds like him.” Nine commented giggling when Talent shot her a heated glare over his plate. “Okay, since you don’t want to go to the hospital and we wouldn’t advise it either we’ll just hafta figure it all out together.”

“Alright.” I said pushing my empty plate away so I could lean forward and rest my folded arms on the table’s surface. “First off, this is all I have in my possession.” I dumped my wallet and phone on the table and hesitated keeping the pistol in my lap. “Um, is there any chance I could kill someone?” I asked nervously a lump forming in my throat.

Talent and Nine glanced between each other before their gazes landed on me. Talent was the first to speak, clearing his throat to get our attention. “Wren, the thing you have to know is you don’t go around killing random people. But, yes I personally have witnessed you killing people. The first time we met, you killed three guys to save me and complete your job. If you killed someone then they deserved it.”

I locked eyes with Talent, his gaze was fiercely honest and I sighed. I didn’t like the whole killing idea but I guess that was what I did. “Alright, then you should both know that there is a bullet missing in my gun.” I finally stated after placing the pistol on the table.

Talent nodded and relaxed back in his chair while chewing on a piece of bacon. Nine gave me an encouraging smile. “That’s definitely something I needed to know. If you didn’t cover your tracks properly then I’ll need to go back through and digitally erase your presence if you were caught. I’ll keep a look out. Other than that it looks like you just have your phone and wallet. Those are usually the only things you carry around.”

I gave Nine a confused look, “What about house keys? Car keys?”

Talent let out a small chuckle, “You hate keys, you are always paranoid someone will steal them, duplicate them or you’ll lose them. You’re house can only be opened by a hand print; the only ones with access are us. You don’t own a car, you take the bus, a cab or you call me.”

“Okay…” I drawled in astonishment. “That is weird, but whatever. Next question.” I pulled out the business card and showed it to them. “Talent mentioned this is our, eh, my agency but want I want to know is this.” I flipped the card over and placed it on the table. “Do these four numbers mean anything to you or me?”

“That’s easy!” Nine chirped happily. “Three, Six, Nine, Seven. They have a meaning, you told me once. The three is because you only trust three people, yourself, Talent and me. The six is the number of letters in Talent’s first name, the nine is me and my full name and the seven is not only your favorite number but also the number of letters in your first name. You said it is your favorite number combination.”
