Mystery

‘Whoever said that some mysteries were best left unsolved obviously wasn’t being shot at…’ –Writhen D.H.

Talent and I slammed the doors to his Ford shut and he leaned over the roof. “So you were around here before you lost your memory?”

“Apparently, I still can’t remember anything though. Let’s walk around a bit.” I said walking away from the parking lot.

Talent slowed his pace after catching up with me and walked by my side. “You could have been doing anything here.”

“Yeah, I know… Especially if we consider my job.” I sighed.

“No, we work with you. If you were working a job then Nine and I would have known about it.” He offered.

I nodded about to answer when my phone went off. I reached in my pocket and pulled out the device, Nine was calling. I slid my thumb across the screen and answered. “Wren speaking.”

“Wow, you answered the same as you always do.” Nine’s sweet voice came over the reviver.

“Oh, I did?” I answered looking to Talent who looked a little surprised.

“Yeah, anyway I found out about the kid.” She continued.

“Wait, I’ll put you on speaker.” I said removing the phone from my ear and pressing the speaker button. “Alright, continue.”

“The kid in the picture’s name is Salvatore Amello, the reason we recognized him is because he is the seventeen year old adopted son of the Amellos’. Mr. Amello is the richest CEO in the whole city, he travels constantly and has branches of his company all over the world. The boy was kidnapped two days ago; but that’s not the surprising thing.”

“Alright, what is suprising?” I asked glancing at Talent who was concentrating his gaze on the phone in my palm.

“Salvatore is your brother Wren.” Nine answered slightly exasperated.

“Wait, I thought you said I didn’t have any family!” I disputed.

“That’s what we thought; you told us you were orphaned at the age of five. You lived in the system until you turned eighteen.”

“Holly shit.” Talent cursed, his brow pulling together and his eyes narrowing. “You had a brother and you didn’t tell us, fuck.” He glared at me and I tried to offer an excuse but I couldn’t come up with anything and shut my mouth again turning my attention to my shoes.

“The only reason I found out is because your biological parents were mentioned in the kidnapping case. Apparently they passed away in a car crash a while ago. But, wow. You have a little brother.” She stated in astonishment.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts. “A little brother who is currently kidnapped. Do you think I was trying to find him?”

“That is the best possibility, seeing as you care about people even if you don’t show it.” Nine replied.

Talent had walked off a bit and was kicking at the ground while rubbing the back of his neck. I gave his back a sympathetic look. I mean, here were the two closest people to me and I hadn’t told them something as simple as me having a little brother. “Talent, I-”

“Shut up Wren.” He cut me off and I looked down ashamed swallowing hard.

Nine stayed silent on the other end of the phone as did Talent and I. Seconds ticked by before Talent came back over. “I’m going to assume you got in too deep and the reason why you wanted to meet me privately and the thing you wanted to tell me was this. You needed help getting you brother back.”
