Pursuit

‘Goals are a necessary step to get anything done, the plans start afterward…’ –Writhen D.H.

I was surrounded by warmth on all sides, my face pressed against a firm surface. The sensation was a welcoming refuge from the cool air in the room. I snuggled further into the warmth sighing lengthily as something wrapped tighter around me. The sweet scent of vanilla milk mixed with hints of coffee, pine and tobacco wafted to me. I couldn’t help but think I had smelled this scent before.

I nuzzled my face sleepily into the firm warmth sighing contently. Any worries and depressing thoughts left me in the blissful haze until my calming warmth moved making me whimper pathetically. My foggy mind started to clear as my brain slowly became more aware of my surroundings. That is when I remembered where I had smelled the scent surrounding me before.

It was Talent.

I shot up the best I could seeing as Talent’s arms were wrapped around me, having pulled me half on his chest when he shifted earlier. ‘Oh my god! Why am I snuggling up to him? Do I like to cuddle? Am I a snuggler? I must be if I’m wrapped around him like this! Damn, this is awkward.’

I slowly work on untangling myself from him and backed off slowly trying not to make the bed move so much. I ran my fingers through my thick dull black locks after I swung my legs down off the bed leaving me sitting on the edge. I shivered from the sudden cold and found myself wanting to curl back up in bed to savor the soothing warmth of Talent’s arms.

“Nn, Wren?” I jolted at Talent’s thick tone heavy with sleep. “You okay?”

I roll my shoulders to relieve the tension that set in and nodded. “M’fine, just a little stiff and tired is all.” I answered trying to keep the nervousness out of my tone.

“Kay…” His voice trailed off as I felt him shift in the bed. It took me a bit to gain up the nerve to look back over my shoulder at him.

Talent had turned so his back was to me and fell back to sleep, his side rising and falling with each steady breath. I sighed; well, it looked like he was going to sleep awhile longer. I reached over to the night stand and retrieved my glasses and phone. After sliding the red frames up my nose I slid the screen and the phone lit up. I groaned at the time which read one forty five in the afternoon. Crap, I’d slept for over seven hours!

I got up and moved around the room to gather my clothes; I really needed Talent to take me to my house so I could pick up some more clothes. Or I just need to suck it up and go home. I thought sternly to myself. I grimaced when I threw my dress shirt on; the sleeve rubbed the bandage on my arm which in turn irritated my wound. I pulled up the dark gray straight cut jeans I was wearing yesterday and slipped the belt around my waist buckling it into place.

Once I was dressed I exited the room taking extra care to shut the door quietly so as not to wake Talent. I walked the length of the hall and down the stairs heading for the kitchen. I was more than a little surprised to see Nine sitting at the table sipping on some coffee and glancing at her laptop on the table occasionally tapping the keys feverously.

“Nine?” I called out cautiously.

She turned to face me and smiled softly. “Hey Hun, how are you? Feeling better?”
