That night was spent laughing, drinking and eating more food. Shawarma was my favorite, I had decided, and undoubtedly, the next time I was anywhere within the vicinity of Shawarma, I would get some. And by some, I mean a lot.
Earlier in the night, Tony had offered me a drink, and I had politely declined. Not only had I heard that alcohol made you a senseless lunatic, but by the way that Tony was tripping over his own feet and singing out ballads, I didn't want to try any. Steve had told me that alcohol wouldn't affect me as much as Tony, as I had the Super-Soldier-Serum in me, but still, I wasn't going to take that chance.
It was about 10 o'clock, and New York city was still abuzz, we could hear the honking of horns and the music of nightclubs. I guess the saying was true, sound does travel up.
" Yes, you do look much like Loki" Thor smiled, gazing at me. " Black hair, tall, wears dark clothes-"
" Isn't he the guy who sent an army on New York?" I asked, smirking slightly.
" Yes, but he isn't really that bad. He's my brother, I can't hate him. You know, for all he's made up to be, he is not the god of evil, he's the god of mischief. There is a difference. He has made choices that he knew were wrong, and his pride wouldn't let him back out of them, all he needs a pinch of humility"
" I can kind of relate"
" How?"
" I was forced to do many horrible things in the Red Room, even at times, I liked doing them. But now...It's different. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel I guess. It's... nice"
" Well, the Avengers seem to like you. You know, once you get on their good side, they will never let you go!" He chuckled. "They have been badgering for weeks to get me to come here, Jane Foster wasn't impressed"
" Jane is your girlfriend?"
" The love of my life, the spring to my winter, The song to my silence, The light to my darkness. She is one in a million" he smiled, taking another swig of his drink.
I looked around the room for someone to talk to about anything other than the subject of love. Yes, it was nice, but I didn't feel the same way about anyone else, and couldn't relate. I didn't want the conversation slipping into one of Tony's ballads.
Tony was at the table, talking to Bruce about something to do with astrophysics. Steve, Natasha and Clint were casualing conversing on a U-shaped couch. I didn't want to intrude on their conversation, something told me that it wasn't the right time. Pepper was nowhere to be seen, perhaps she had gone off to do some work.
" You know, this is Asgardian mead, The finest of its kind" Thor mused. " Aged for a century. Made from the finest ingredients in Asgard. The nectar of the gods"
" Oh, really?" I smirked, doubting it very much.
" Yes, the preparation process is so tedious, that a drop more or less of ingredients could ruin the entire batch. I would be a fool not to let anyone have a sip of it, after all, nothing on Earth is like it."
" I don't think you should offer Tony anymore. He might end up creating a machine that blows up the moon"
" No mortals could digest this mead, it would be too powerful for them. But you-" He grunted, bending over the bar and reaching to get something. " would probably be much like Steve" He slammed a small shot glass on the table.
" Steve?"
" No mortal liquor can affect him. I've tried." He said, pouring some mead into the shot glass from an intricately designed decanter. "Drink up" he winked.
