A sharp sculpted face which bore its intriguing eyes into my own. His delicate smile which seemed to soften any alarm I had felt before. And his strong inked arms which gently held the book between his palms. Kellan. This name I heard a few times in the last 24 hours.
This was him. This was answers.
I try to concentrate and bring myself back into the moment.
"Uh, yeah nice to meet you to" confused as to how he beat me to introducing my name and why he was sitting at my table.
"Folklore stories, huh? I mean...they're interesting but a little silly don't you think?" he asks, signalling back to the book.
I look down at it, remembering how intrigued I was by it. What does he want from me? A guy like this could not have possibly seen me reading this book and thought I was even mildly interesting enough to approach. There was something he wanted, something this famous Kellan wanted to hear. I could tell by the tone of his voice and his body language. However, there wasn't a chance I was giving answers and not receiving them myself. So, I decided to play along.
"Well, actually...I kind of thought they were extremely intriguing. I mean aren't you at least a little interested to know if they were true? They're kind of exciting really..." I answer, my eyes searching his.
For someone who can barely have a conversation with someone she knows, I was really surprising myself right now.
He cocks his brow, surprised by my answer. That makes two of us. I watch as he flicks through the pages of the book and smiles. He lands on a page and scoffs to himself. He looks up at me and turns the book around to show me the page he was looking out.
"Lycanthrope? Yeah, it's kind of cool. Oh, look at this one". He points out an image of a ferocious looking, over-sized wolf. He reads the small description under it, "Hmm, Urbanian Wolves originated from the native Urbanian tribe in Central America. Their larger forms allowed to colonise other packs not only around America but the world. They were classified the strongest of all breeds, with their large forms, incredible speed and mesmerising features" He then looks up from the book and comments, "Interesting".
Something about it sent shivers down my entire body.
He was trying to get me to say it, but he made it extremely difficult on what exactly. And with the little confidence I had left in me, I asked.
"Why are you speaking to me?" it was clear and concise, not beating around the bush.
His entire facial expression changed, he shut the book and placed it on the table. He looked straight into my eyes as he leaned his elbow against the table to say, "Where's your father Alexandria?"
And there it was. I mirrored his actions by leaning against the table and asking, "Why are you so interested in my father?"
He scoffed to himself and rolled his eyes turning back to me with a more serious tone. His playful side had disappeared in the time span of two seconds and he meant business. "No more games, I need to get into contact with him. We must talk about his stepping down from the pack, because it will affect us Alexandria. I know he's avoiding my people, so let's just make this situation easier for your family...and just tell me where he is".
During his entire monologue, I sat still, confused as ever. I crossed my arms over my chest, as a protective mechanism and leaned back from the table. Kellan noticed this immediately and leaned even closer to the table with a questionable look on his face. "You do know what I'm talking about, right?" asking me as if he was asking a five-year-old child.
"You obviously have the wrong Alexandria. My father's a family lawyer, now I have no idea why you're here, but I'm kindly asking you to leave me alone". That was my most confident comeback and plea yet, I felt extremely uncomfortable as soon as he brought up my father. Was he stalking me?
"So that's the cover he gave you? A lawyer? Wow, Tarbell's really lost it" he laughed to himself as if what I was saying was the most ridiculous thing he's ever heard, where in fact it's vice versa.
I looked around the café, trying to find some sort of escape, but I knew I was trapped. I didn't want to cause a scene or draw any attention to ourselves...well myself to be more specific.
"Don't think you're going anywhere, this café is crawling with Hytherins, so you better start talking before this conversation takes a turn Miss Tarbell".
That's it, I had to get out of here. "I don't know who you are, I don't what you're talking about and I definitely don't know what you want from my father. I just came here to study, not talk about Hytherins or whatever to some stranger" I explicitly strain my plea, hoping he would just get up and leave. However, he returned my monologue with an even more confused stare.
He shook his head to himself, as if he was having an internal conversation and looked back up to me as if he realised something. Both his eyebrows raised and his eyes wide he asked, "You have no idea what I'm talking about? Are you serious?". This time he was much less aggressive, which was a sign that he did believe what I was saying.
"No, I don't" I reply, "what I do know is that you've made me really confused...and a little weirded out to be honest" I answer truthfully.
"Holy shit" was all he said, continuing to hold his wide-eyed expression.
This time I raised an eyebrow. What was it I didn't know?
Kellan rubbed his hands over his face and breathed in deeply. He was not impressed with how this conversation has gone. He picks up the folklore book and waves it in my direction, with a quiet and hustled voice he says, "All this...is true. Your father is the Alpha of one of the most powerful packs in the United States. Your breed, the Urbanian wolves congregate right next my own...the Hytherins. We're kind of like neighbours, but for wolves. Now, where's your father?". He skims through his jibberish statement as if he doesn't have time to explain it.
And at that moment, the avocado toast and tea I ordered was placed on my table by Kelly. Me as frozen as an icicle, and sick to the stomach. Without another word, I stood up straight away, grabbed my bag and headed straight for the door.
It's all a lie, I thought to myself. All of it. This was just some guy trying to play a sick joke on me.
As soon as I reached the door, a huge gentleman dressed in all black blocks the way out. I then turn around and another big guy trapped me between them.
"You can stop now, I think you've pranked me enough. Just leave me alone" I say to Kellan. I was panicking, I had to get out of here. Then, Isaiah walked up to me and gently put his hand on my shoulder.
"Alexandria...I think you should come with me. Call your parents, we need to talk".
