Megan's P.O.V
We've been sitting in my uncles car in Haley's driveway for about ten minutes now. I know Haley's parents know we're here. Five minutes ago the peeked through the window and gave me an awkward smile at getting caught. I know Haley's nervous to see her sister. Other than it being obvious in the way shes been staring at the center console and hasn't moved since we pulled up the driveway, I could just tell. "You know if you don't move sooner or later your body is going to be stuck like that forever." I tell her. She looks up at me with a small smile but it quickly fades. "Do you want to go to the Burger Barn?" she asks. I sigh "Nice try." I tell her. I get out of the car and walk around to her, opening the door and grabbing her forearm. She doesn't put up a fight as I gently pull her up and out of the car. I start walking forward but her hand slipping into mine makes me freeze. Haley hasn't held my hand since ninth grade, when I told her that I liked her. In a "non-best friend kind of way". I squeeze her hand and we both walk into the house. Laughter comes from the kitchen and Haley's breath hitches when we round the corner. She has her back to us. When Haley's parents look behind Jane to us she slowly turns around. They just stare at each other for a minute before Jane slowly takes a step forward and envelopes Haley into a hug. Their parents sigh in relief and I do the same. Seeing a tear drop from Haley's eye as they pull back from their embrace is heartwarming but yet heartbreaking all at the same time. I hate seeing Haley cry. No matter the reason of it, it always makes me want to scope her up and hold her. My phone rings breaking the beginning of what I thought was going to be an awkward silence. Saved by the ringtone. "Hey Mic." I breathe. After a minute of the sound of papers rustling my uncles voice comes through the phone. "Hey kid. Look, I need your help over at the shop. Frank flaked again on me." he sighs. I look over to Haley who has an eyebrow raised. She isn't going to like this one bit. "U-uh yeah, yeah, okay. See you soon." I murmur. I slide my phone back into my pocket and sigh pulling out my keys. "I'm sorry, I have to leave. My uncle needs me at the shop." I apologize to everyone. Haley's mom steps forward and hugs me. I'm not one that likes to be hugged so I just stand there trying to not make it awkward but obviously fail. "No apology necessary hunny. It give Haley and Jane time to catch up." she smiles. I smile and nod. I look to Haley who is obviously upset that I'm going to be leaving. I know she doesn't want to be alone with Jane today but I don't have a choice. "I'll pick you up later tonight, okay?" I say. She sighs and nods her head. "Okay. Mom's right anyways. I'll see you later." she smiles. The smile is forced but I walk out of the house knowing that she'll be okay. I wouldn't say we'll have an extra at the Burger Barn tonight but maybe someday soon, just maybe.
