Haley's P.O.V
The first day of school, overall was great. I got to reconnect with friends that went away for the summer and ones that are just getting back from a cruise. It seemed like everyone had a story to tell for their summer well my story was that I stayed home and did practically nothing. I had many opportunities to go with some of my friends on vacation but I didn't because I didn't want to leave Megan alone all summer. I'm never going to tell her about all this though because I know what her reaction would be, she'd be mad. She would say that she didn't want me to not do things because of her. This was the topic of our very first argument. Before I knew she was gay, a boy had asked me out on a date with him and some of his friends. I asked if Megan could come along and he said there wasn't enough room in his car for another person so I said no, nicely. When Megan found out she was mad at me for not going. Which, I still don't understand completely why she'd been that upset. She's just so independent and maybe sometimes a little to independent. I shouldn't be her only friend. That's another thing I never understood. Megan comes off as someone you wouldn't just approach with ease but that never stopped me. The thing is, Megan was actually pretty popular when she moved her and started ninth grade. Everyone was always talking about her, guys were always asking her out, people always wanted to have her as a lab partner. People were the same way with me and I guess that's how we became friends. I was really happy she wasn't the prissy "I'm better than all of you" type of girl.
Walking outside Megan is leaning against her car smoking a cigarette. When she sees me she takes one last drag and quickly stomps it out. She knows I can't stand cigarettes but it's the only legal thing she could buy. I remember the first time she smoked in front of me. She said "trust me. If I could buy weed and not get arrested I wouldn't even look at one of these things.". The thing is she hardly ever smokes. Only when she's pissed off. I don't have to ask this time because I already know its about school. "Come on. I gotta get you home at a certain time. Per your mom's request." she says. "Yay.." I sigh. This is it.. this is really it. I'm going to see Jane.
