She went searching for Jungkook once Hoseok had disappeared. Determined to find out what he was on about. She retraced her steps back to the main village she had came from and went about searching for Jungkook.
She walked through the village centre and saw nobody. Not the citizens, not Jin, not Namjoon, and not even Tae or Jimin who always seemed to be by the fountain.
"Where are they?" She sighed, pausing her walk to sit on the wall of the fountain. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "I'll check Jin's house. Maybe they're having another tea party."
So with that, she got up and headed towards the house. The bright sun glaring down on her, almost as if it was determined to make her stop on her journey.
"Jin?" She knocked on the door, heavy and hard. Her knuckles already aching from the first knock. "Hatter?"
No reply.
The door creaked open slowly after she had spoke, and she entered quietly. The place was empty, a thin layer of dust covering everything as if nobody had been here in a while. Which couldn't have been correct because Min-Young was here merely hours ago.
"Joon?" She called out a little louder, entering the living room. Not a thing had been touched since she had arrived earlier in the day. Namjoon's book which he was reading before she had arrived was neatly closed on the coffee table, his bookmark - which she had learnt Jungkook had drawn for him - peeping out between the two pages he was on. The cup of coffee that Jin had made her still resting there. The small dribble of coffee residing in the bottom. Untouched. "Yoongi?" She called out nervously. Something deep inside of her telling her something wasn't quite right.
No reply once more.
She carefully tread through the rest of the house, her boots making footprints in the dust sheet that covered everything.
"What on earth has happened?" She mumbled softly. She headed back downstairs, careful to step in her own footprints and not disturb anymore dust. She stood in the middle of the living room once more, scanning the area.
Everybody, and she did mean everybody, was sat in this room. Hoseok was sat on the small sofa with Jimin and Yoongi, Jungkook was sat on the opposite side of you on the larger sofa with Jin on the other and you between Taehyung's legs on the floor and Namjoon was sat on the armchair between everybody.
She sat down where she was once sat and surveyed the room. Looking for an indication on where everybody had gone.
As she sat down, the dust beneath her rose like a flurry of snow rising towards the sky. Her eyes widened when the subtle smell of smoke filled her nostrils.
"This... it isn't dust." She swiped her finger across the coffee table that was covered in what she initially thought was dust. She noticed then how it crumbled into smaller pieces. "Ash."
She stood up, heart racing. Her eyes scanning the room for any sign of struggle.
None.
Her eyes landed upon Namjoon's book, something about the book drawing her to it. She knelt on the floor in front of it and opened it on the page Namjoon had left it on.
Then, and only then did she realise that the white bookmark was not the one Jungkook had made for Namjoon.
Your friends shall all perish, as shall wonderland. At least you tried saving them.
Was scrawled in red ink. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she suddenly felt nauseous.
"This can't be happening..." she whimpered quietly. Tears welling in her eyes. "I..."
