Renjun quietly listened to the screams of his parents, wondering where they went wrong.
They were happy in China. A cute family with two children. One was 9, the other was 6. Now they argue every day at 2:00am when they think that their children are sleeping. Of course, the younger child, Chenle, is always sound asleep and when he isn't, Renjun is always there to give him headphones and have him watch YouTube until he fell asleep.
He wanted to protect him.
Renjun had to grow up fast and he certainly didn't want the same for his brother.
That's why he was currently in his room on his shared full sized bed with his brother since their parents couldn't afford separate beds.
That's currently what they were arguing about. His dad hasn't been going into work while his mom has been working her ass off but doesn't get enough pay. He says that it's cause he's sick and that she didn't bring enough money home and should apply to another job while she says that he shouldn't be slacking off and that she still has been working her ass off.
His father was pretty sick. He had a cold for a week but now he just has a cramp in his foot and he stays off work.
His mother truly was working her ass off but she could've gotten a better job with a better pay and she spends most of the money on cigarettes.
So Renjun thought about getting a job at their local grocery store.
Not for them, but for him and Chenle. He didn't want to sleep on a mediocre mattress anymore. He wanted his brother to have more.
He looked at the room and sighed. It truly wasn't the best living condition. It was a full sized bed with two windows, a small closet, and two nightstands.
He sat up, trying not to wake up his brother, and grabbed his charged phone and his coat. He slipped on a pair of bunny slippers and crept out of his room and out of the house. His parents wouldn't notice, they were too busy getting in each other's ass.
He walked down the orange colored street with droopy eyes yet a mind that wouldn't seem to shut up. This is why he had eye bags that had eye bags that were starting to grow eye bags. It's cause he hasn't slept for 2 almost 3 weeks straight.
He smiled once he saw the entrance of a park and walked towards the swings automatically. He sat on the swings with a smile on his face as the wind blew, almost pushing him.
He could remember those days when his mom used to push him on the swing and his dad would push Chenle. But that was when they were happy. Honestly, the only happy one is Chenle and he was only happy because Jisung is there for him.
He swung back and forth smiling until he was hit in the face with a puff of smoke. He choked a bit and waved the smoke out of the air. It really didn't help that he had asthma.
"Oh shit, are you okay?" Renjun shook his head as the mysterious boy gave him a water bottle.
"Here, drink some water. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to blow my smoke in your face."
"Its fine, it was the wind. But it's not fine that you gave me water. I was always told to never accept things from strangers."
"Well, I'm Jaemin. I'm 16 and I never fucking learned how to read. Now, I'm not a stranger." Renjun stared at him for a few minutes but took the water and took a sip.
"I'm Renjun." Renjun took another sip of the water as Jaemin sat down on the swing next to him with a smile on his face.
"Okay Renjun. Why are you at the park at 2:20am with pajama pants that have a cartoon character on it and a navy blue hoodie."
"It's a lot to explain. I won't tell you now but maybe later in life. What about you Jaemin? Why do you have a white hoodie on with banana pajama pants and blue slippers?"
"Also personal. What is that cartoon?" Renjun noticed that he was trying to change the subject so he just dropped it.
"It's called Moomin, the best damn cartoon to ever exist." Jaemin smiled at how cute Renjun was and put out his cigarette.
"Can I call you Nana?" Jaemin froze and his eyes widened. That's what Jeno calls him.
"Did I scare you? I'm sorry. I just thought that it fit because you're wearing banana pants." Jaemin let out a breath and smiled.
"Sure. It also goes with my last name, Na." Renjun giggled softly and continued to swing.
"I'm a genius. Okay Nana, why aren't you sleeping?" Jaemin rolled his eyes and continued to swing.
"I'm not answering that question until you allow me to call you Moomin." Renjun froze for a little bit, lost in his thoughts but nodded and smiled.
"Sure. Now why are you awake? Normal teens would just be laying in bed at 2:25am." Jaemin smiled at the boy and shook his head.
"Things got heated in my house so I went out." Renjun nodded and made eye contact with him.
"Same." They were quiet for a moment until they heard Renjuns ringtone.
"Dancing Queen by Abba?"
"Shut up, its a classic." He put his phone to his ear and cutely said hello while Jaemin watched him speaking.
But his smile dropped once he got a text from Jeno telling him to go home.
"Hey Jaemin, I'm sorry. My mom wants me to leave."
"I have to go too. Bye Moomin!" Jaemin got off the swings before Renjun did and turned back around.
"Also, Dancing Queen by Abba is my favorite." He ran home, leaving Renjun to smile for a few minutes to himself.
"Shit, I should get home." Renjun quickly stood up and ran down the trail at 2:30am.
