I turn away from the window. She's not coming. I sigh and rub my face. I stare at my ceiling and let my mind roam on the negative.

"Ezra! Madeline is here!" Gram shouts from the entryway and I jump out of bed.

She's here. She came! Stay calm, Ezra. She's just a friend. It's okay.

I slow my pace towards the entryway. When I round the corner, I lock eyes with Madeline.

"You two have fun," Gram states and keeps her hand on the wall as she walks to the living room.

"Are you sure you don't want me to stay here? What if you need help?" I question her.

"I will be perfectly fine. Now go with the pretty girl next to you."

I duck my head down to hide my red cheeks.

"I still don't know why you want to come to my tree house."

Madeline shrugs. "Do you have somewhere else in mind?"

Nothing came to my mind, so I climbed out of her car.

"Ezra?"

I glance back behind me and Madeline is trying to keep a straight face. "What?"

"You have a little," she can't finish her sentence because she bursts out laughing.

"What is it?"

"Glitter! It's all over the back of your clothes."

I try to twist and look at the glitter on me. "How did that happen? I don't own glitter and neither does Grams."

"My little sister spilled glitter in my car. I guess I didn't clean it up very well." Madeline giggles and walks towards me. She pats my back and watches as glitter flies off of me.

"Madeline?"

"What is it?"

"Nothing."

She turns to me, but I don't turn to her. She lets it go and I close my eyes. "Ezra?"

"Yeah?"

"Who are you?"

I open my eyes and turn to her. "What?"

"Why do you talk to me?"

"I talk to you because I want to."

"Why do you want to?"

"I want to because I like you."

She jumps down from the tree house and starts towards her car.

"Madeline, wait. What's wrong?"

"I can't do this, Ezra."

"Can't do what?"

She spins around and presses her lips to mine. It is a soft and short kiss. Her hands drop from my face and before I can stop her she is driving away.

"What did you decide to do instead of spray paint illegally?" the officer asks.

I glance up at him and back to the wall in front of me. "Nothing good yet, sir."

"What's on your mind, kid?"

"A lot of things."

"A girl?"

"She is one of them. Yes."

"What happened?"

"She asked a few random questions and then kissed me."

The officer whistled. "I remember those days. It is tough finding the right girl."

"Tell me about it."

He smiles down at me. "You'll know if she is the one or not." He starts to walk away, but I stop him.

"Can I do one more spray paint job? The last one, I promise."

"Sure, kid. Have a nice night."

"You too."

After he disappears from view, I head to Grams.

What do I need to do? What am I missing? God, I need You. I don't want girls getting in the way.

A gentle rain falls around me and I pull my hood over my head. I feel as if someone is watching me, but I shake the feeling off. I make it to Grams house and make sure no one had followed me. I was alone in the dark of night. I step inside the house and check on Gram. She is in the living room sleeping peacefully. I place a blanket over her body. I go into my room and collapse on my bed. I grab my phone and go to my texts with Madeline.

Did you make it home safe?

I stare at my phone for five minutes and still no answer. I put my phone beside me and grab my bible to do a quick devotion.

Buzz.

Yeah.

Good. She is safe. I turn my phone off, switch the light off, and fall asleep soon enough.

I KNOW IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG. NEXT CHAPTER STUFF IS GOING TO GO DOWN AND THIS CHAPTER IS TOO SHORT. HOPEFULLY I WILL BE ABLE TO WRITE SOON. SCHOOL AND OTHER THINGS ARE KEEPING ME BUSY.

WHAT DO Y'ALL THINK SO FAR?
ANYONE SHIP MADELINE AND EZRA?
WHAT DO Y'ALL WANT TO HAPPEN IN FUTURE CHAPTERS?

HAVE AN AMAZING DAY/NIGHT! LOVE Y'ALL!

I AM TRYING TO PULL AN ALLNIGHTER FOR THE FIRST TIME. ANY TIPS? IT IS 12:30 RIGHT NOW...
