"Good morning, Doctor."

The Doctor rolled over and nuzzled his nose in his wife's neck.

"Hello," he murmured, pressing a light kiss against her skin.

"There's water in the kettle and I got rid of the pears, like you asked."

He hummed. "I love you."

"Yeah, that's why you married me. I have to get to work." He turned back into his pillow and felt a kiss on his cheek. "Thank you for staying with me," she whispered.

"Mm," he groaned. "We'll go to the Singing Towers... Trenzalore, tonight."

She giggled. "Brilliant. You're bringing me lunch, right?"

"Yeah. I'll see you at twelve."

"Bye."

He fell back asleep, thinking of his gorgeous wife that he gave up Time and Space for. He'd do it again, too. Anything for her. His Martha Jones.

About two hours later, he was woken up by a pounding on the door. He groaned as he got up and pulled on a robe. There was shouting.

"—icky Smith, you open this door right now!"

The Doctor threw open the door and a blonde almost stumbled into him.

"What?!"

"Mickey, what the hell—! Oh." She looked at the door number as the Doctor watched her, irritated. "Wrong apartment."

"Mickey Smith is one up," he said, pointing up and taking a breath to calm down. "Would you like some tea?"

"Um... sure." The Doctor stepped aside and closed the door after her when she walked in. "I'm sorry about that, I really am."

"It's okay," he said, turning on the kettle.

"I'm Rose," she offered, leaning against the counter.

"The Do— John. I'm John."

"Doctor John?" she asked. The Doctor considered this for a moment.

"Sure."

"And what do you do, Doctor John?" Rose mused. The Doctor fumbled for a moment.

"Brain!" he shouted.

"Brain surgery?" Rose clarified. The Doctor cleared his throat.

"Yes."

"Brilliant! Do you think you could help my mum? She's always dating these horrible blokes who are cheating on their wives."

"I don't think that's a proper thing, Rose."

"Eh," she shrugged. "Worth a shot."

The Doctor scoffed and turned off the stove, for the the kettle had begun to screech. He poured the tea and and added the tea bags. He gave one to Rose, who thanked him quietly. They say in silence for a moment.

"So, you know that weird telephone box on the corner?" she asked suddenly. The Doctor choked on his tea. Everyone saw the TARDIS but no one registered it was there. He dropped his mug and and pushed Rose against the wall. She cried out in pain as her mug hit the floor.

"Who are you?" he demanded.

"What the hell?" she said angrily. "Get off me!"

"Who are you?" he repeated, becoming impatient.

"I'm Rose Tyler!" she yelled. Somewhere, deep in his head, something almost clicked. "You're the one who invited me in!"

"Get out," he said. "Get out, and if you ever come back here again, I'll send you back to wherever it is you came from."

He let her push him off and she walked briskly out the door, muttering obscenities under her breath. When the door was closed, the Doctor sighed and looked down at the broken mugs on the floor and the still hot tea they were laying in.

Martha came home around five and the Doctor was still fuming.

"Martha!" he announced as soon as she came through the door.

"Hello," she laughed, setting down her bag and kissing his cheek.

"Someone was here today. Her name was Rose Tyler and she sees the TARDIS. Actually sees it."

He wasn't paying close enough attention to see Martha's subtle change of expression when he said Rose Tyler's name.

"Uh... how did you two meet?" she asked tightly.

"She was pounding on the door, thinking it was someone else's. Someone else who lives above us. I invited her in for tea."

"Why would you do that?!" Martha demanded, looking panicked.

"Because it's the nice thing to do!" the Doctor reasoned.

"Still, she could have been dangerous!"

"She is! She knows the TARDIS!" The Doctor stopped for a moment. "I need to go to the TARDIS for a moment. I'll be back in a bit."

"Doctor—"

He kissed her. "I love you." And he walked out the door.
