Chance POV

It's my last day out here in New York with Sweet and Keh. The song is pretty much done, the mixer just gotta clean it up a bit. I think it's gonna be a hit. Kehlani and I work together really well.

There's been some tension between us during these past couple of days. It's not like we don't speak or anything, we just don't exactly know how to interact when it comes to anything besides the music. Before we start and after we always seem to feel awkward around each other.

It's like we almost want to be friends but we don't know how.

I sit in my hotel room and wait for my ride to get here so I can go to the studio before I leave. I smoke a blunt out on the balcony and just chill, literally since it's so cold outside.

My phone rings in my pocket so I pick it up to answer it.

My nigga Donald, better known as Childish Gambino, appears on the screen.

"What's up dude."

"What's up?"

"You out chilling in the cold nigga?" He asks. I chuckle.

"Ain't Nothing new, Chi-Town cold asf." I tell him.

"True but you know I still rep that zone 6, only fucked with y'all Midwest niggas for like a couple years."

"True true."

"It's been a few days now, how's it going?" Bino asks me. I shrug at him and take a pull of the blunt. "What you mean? Ain't you out there with your first love. Or like second love? You know what I mean."

I chuckle. "Yeah but she got a man." I say. I'm not chasing girls who are taken. I'm not chasing girls period.

"That didn't stop you in high school." He points out.

"We not in high school no more man."

"Exactly. And she ain't married to the nigga, Irving will be fine without her."

"Man whatever, I'm not gone do nor say anything unless she makes the first move." I hit the last of the roach and put it out in the ashtray.

"And what if she over there with that same mentality."

"Then I guess we stuck." My phone buzzes in my hand letting me know my Uber is close. "Look man I got to go. I'll hit you later though."

"Ight remember what I said."

"Sure."

I hang up and shove my phone back in my pocket. I walk to the elevator and see it closing.

"Hold it please!" I semi yell as I jog to catch it. It opens up and I see Lani and Sam standing inside. "Thank you."

"No problem."

We ride in silence the whole time. I get out first and head straight out. I realize we're all going the same way so I slow down.

My Uber is out front so I walk to the door. I turn towards them and nod.

"See you there." Lani nods and looks down at her feet. She's wearing black doc martens under her cargo pants.

I get into the backseat of the Uber and ride.

At the studio we vibe out to the song, fully finished. Everyone claps once the song end.

"That's hot! This gone be big." Nick says with a smile.

"Y'all have great chemistry. That's gone be perfect for the video." Pat says.

My head snaps towards him.

"Video?" Lani asks.

"Yeah we all know this is gonna be a hit so we're making a music video for it."

"Yeah in like a month and a half, maybe sooner." Pat confirms.

Lani and I look at each other and give a small grin.

"Sounds great." She says. I nod in agreement.

Honestly I feel good about this, I know I said I'm going to keep my distance but this is my chance. Maybe on set she'll catch feelings and come to me about it.

"Well we gotta get going. Gotta get this little girl back to her man." They all chuckle. My heart sinks. I almost forgot about that.

"We should go too. Your flight leaves soon." Pat says. "Alright it was wonderful meeting you Ms.Kehlani. I'll see you in a couple weeks." They shook hands and Pat walks out. Keh stands and wraps me in a hug. I hug her back tightly and breath in her sweet smell.

Damn I miss this.

She lets go of me so I step back. Nick comes to shake my hand then he walks out. We walk out behind him.

"See you in a couple of weeks." I say before she gets all the way in the car. She nod, then they ride off down the busy street.
