Chapter 4

“Go away.” I groaned, as I shuffled in my bed and buried my face in the pillow, trying to block away the noise. Jake was sat next to me, nudging me annoyingly. “Spencer please wake up.” He whined, and I turned around, glaring at him. “What?” I asked, clearly disturbed.

I wasn’t a very pleasant person during the mornings. I don’t ‘flutter my eyes open’ or ‘giggle’ as I wake up, like no. I’m cranky as fuck.

“My mum made us pancakes, and she told me to wake you up.” He said, sighing softly. I nodded silently, sitting up on the bed, knowing I had no other choice. I rubbed my eyes and looked around the room, then cocked my head to the side, looking at the clock. It’s 12 pm.

“Isn’t it a little late for breakfast?” I asked, lifting my eyebrow as I got out of bed, making my way towards the bathroom. I grimaced at my reflection; my hair disheveled and all over the place.

Sometimes I wonder if my boyfriend, or husband, (if I ever got one really), would wake up to this.

I really hope not, because it’s not something anyone would want to wake up to.

I splashed my face with water, as I heard Jake answer me. “Dunno. We just woke up, and mum seems a little happy.”

That’s good to hear, since my mum isn’t always in a good mood.

“Alright, I’ll join you guys in a couple of minute.” I said, smiling to him a little.

He smiled back at me, and then walked out of the room.

I don’t know when we started to be nice to each other, since we were never on good terms. I guess after what happened, we kind of noticed that we only have each other from then on, and I don’t want to lose him. I have already put a lot of distance between me and him from before.

I took a quick shower anyways, which took a good ten minutes, and I decided to go for a pair of jeans and a nirvana shirt.

Although the sun is blazing and it’s hot as balls outside, I don’t look so pleasant in shorts.

That, or I feel uncomfortable in them.

I also threw on a pair of converse on, taking one last glance in the mirror. I don’t look half as horrible as I did during the morning.

I let my hair down, brushing my fingers through them to clear the knots, then made my way towards the kitchen.

My mum was standing over the oven, making the pancakes as I heard her hum silently, placing the pancakes on a plate, and squirting chocolate syrup all over them. I feel hungry now.

“Morning Mum.” I chirped, pecking her cheek.

“Morning honey.” She said, smiling softly as she separated the pancakes on three different plates, placing them on the dining table. “How did you sleep?” She asked me, as she set the cups on the table, getting orange juice from the fridge.

“Okay.”  I shrugged. “Until that dork woke me up.” I said, nodding towards Jake and grinning.

Jake giggled, and my grin widened. Apparently, that made mum smile too.

We ate our breakfast silently, and although my mum was in a good mood, I couldn’t help but notice she merely touched her plate.

I didn’t say anything about it, and neither did Jake.

“So, what do you guys want to do for today?” She said after a long while of comfortable silence.

I shrugged again, then remembered that I actually did have plans for today.
