One Week Later

"Please, take care of yourself, Anti. Call if you need anything. I love you so much! Have a safe drive!" Jack says as he hugs me goodbye.

"I love you too, and I will. Plus, I have Dark. He'll protect me and keep me sane," I giggle, looking over to Dark and Mark who were doing their usual bro handshake.

When they're finished, I hug Mark goodbye.

"Take care of that big dumbass for me. And also take care of yourself. You're strong Anti, he knows it too. You'll be okay. You guys should visit more. Seán has been so happy seeing you these past two weeks. Well, besides the other stuff. There's a storm coming, so you guys better go before you get caught. Love you," he ruffles my hair and sends me over to Dark, where he was waiting with the car door open.

"Thanks, Darky," I say, feeling happy and grateful that I have him.

He climbs into the seat next to me and starts up the car, waving to the couple standing outside on the porch.

"Agh, I can barely see anything. These wipers suck."

The rain had started pouring down about half an hour after we left Seán's. Thankfully, there was barely anyone on the road, but there were lots of trucks and cars with dim lights. The roads weren't that slippery, but that's only because we have the good tires. Not everyone has those.

"The portal isn't that far, but we still have a ways. Do you want to stop at a gas station or anything? I think this exit up here is the last one until ours," he says with a little bit of strain in his voice.

"Yeah, maybe the storm will calm down after we get back on the highway. Although I highly doubt it." I continue to look out the window as blurry trees pass by.

"Alright," he says, playing the music on his phone once more.

'Ode to Sleep' by Twenty One Pilots comes on and I bounce my knee with the beat, drumming my fingers.

When it gets to the chorus, I'm all open. I start singing, having memorized the lyrics months ago.

Dark just looks at me and smiles, the mood in the car completely changing.

My lover pulls off the highway and into a gas station. We walk inside; he leaves me to go use the restroom.

I walk over to the drinks and take out a Monster. I grab a small bag of chips and stand there on my phone, waiting for Dark.

"Hello, Anti," a deep, familiar voice whispers into my ear.

My body tenses in fear but I take deep breaths, walking away from the isle without looking back.

He's dead. He's gone. It's just your mind playing tricks on you. You're okay.

I impatiently wait for Dark and tap my foot, looking behind me every 10 seconds.

"Hey, you okay?" Dark asks, walking towards me.

I give a small smile, "yeah." He gives me a weird look, but struts it off. We go up to the counter, quickly getting back to our car.
