Seven Saviours (Chapter Four)

Chapter 4: Jaedon Avante

It was hard leaving home. I'd be missed by 5 younger siblings, plus my parents, but I was excited to finally be able to do something for me. I almost had a heart attack when I saw that jet! So shiny and new, and I got to ride in it! Damn, this was gonna be one sick year.

When I got on, there was only one chick on board, and two other dudes. The chick gave me a warm smile, so I sat down closer to her.

"Hello." she said "May I ask your name?" I grinned.

"Sup, I'm Jaedon. Jaedon Avante. What's your name chickie?" I was trying to play it smooth. She was pretty cute.

"Uhmm..." She gave me this weird look at first. "My name is Miyuki Maiya, and I am from Japan. It's nice to meet you Jaedon." Her weird expression was quickly replaced by one of her warm smiles. "What does chickie mean?" I laughed at this, but stopped abrupdly. She was serious.

"Oh, uhm aha it's just what we call girls in Trini." I shrugged. She looked a little embarrassed.

"Oh, well I understand now. Have you met the others?"

"No, not yet." I admitted

"Perfect!" she seemed excited to be in charge of introductions.

"Waiz, Durante, come here please!" The two boys looked up from their iPods, and got up. They walked over to me. One was dark with a shaved head, and the other was tanned with blonde hair. The blonde guy spoke first.

"Hey. How's it going? I'm Durante Valentino." He definatly had a European accent, I just couldn't place it.

"I'm Jaedon Avante." I replied. Then the dark one spoke.

"I am Waiz Raanee. It is very good to meet you!" He seemed to be a dramatic type, so I wasn't as uncomforatable anymore.

"Haha it's nice to meet you too Waiz. And you too Durante. So does anyone know where exactly it is that we are going?" I asked. Everyone glanced at each other.

"We only know we are going to an academy in the United States of the America." Waiz said.

"An academy for exceptional children." Miyuki piped up.

"Like us!" Durante added with a laugh. We all laughed a bit with him. Then, we heard a voice over the announcment system.

"Hello everyone! Please take a seat, as we will be taking off momentarily! A warm welcome to our newest passenger. Our next stop, also our second last stop, is Kingston, Jamaica. If anyone needs anything such as food or refreshments, do not hesitate to push your "assistance" button. Thank you." And the voice died.

We all sat down and buckled up, and then Durante, Waiz and Miyuki all turned their seats so we could face each other.

"So Jaedon." Waiz started "How did your parents react when you got... you know... the letter?" He said it as if it was cursed or something. Like, it's only a piece of paper. This kid was definatly a drama queen. I simply shrugged.

"It's not like they freaked out or anything. Infact my 'rents were pretty psyched that I would finally be doing something for me." Even if it meant flying to another country.

Waiz's mouth formed a perfect 'o'. Durante just laughed.

"Geez Waiz not everyone's parents flipped out!" Durante kept laughing. Waiz's face turned bright red (if that's even possible) and he grew really quiet. I was trying to piece this all together. It made my head hurt, so I just blurted my question out.

"What the heck are you guys talking about? Why would your parents freak out about those letters? They're only pieces of paper..." Everyone stared back at me with surprised expressions.

"Jaedon, do you really not know what those letters are for?" Waiz asked me. I shook my head no. So Waiz's story began...

"You see, I was helping around our hut with my little brother. Sweeping and such, when my grandmama walked in. She looked weak enough to fall over! So when I went over to help her sit down, she looked at me and began to weep. my brother brough her some water, and she explained to me how I was in danger. And because I'd have to come to the United States of the America, I'd be out of her protection and the spirits that watch over our village. She was very converned, so I told her I'd be extra careful. She just shook her head and said that nothing would prepare me or the rest of us for what was to come." Waiz stopped speaking." I've been a bit fidgety ever since. My Grandmother doesn't worry about much. She's a very spiritual sort of women. And it scared me when she was so unsure of my future."

We all sat in stunned silence. I'm sure Miyuki and Durante had heard this story before, but they stilled seemed speechless. I tried to break the silence.

"Well, I guess we'll find out what this place will be like. Personally, I'm still excited to see what they have to offer." Miyuki, Durante, and Waiz all nodded. We were almost at our next stop, so they put their chairs back the right way. Another child would be getting on the jet in less than an hour. And they'd bring a new story too.
