—The streets at night were anything but quiet.
Ever since moving to Tokyo to study, the freak duo that made history in Karasuno High School remained close as ever. Although they still had their old habits of lagging behind classes and being such workaholics (by work, that means practices for their university team), the two have undergone dramatic changes over the past years.
Kageyama Tobiō, who was known to be the grumpiest and least studious person back in his high school days, has been seen smiling occasionally on and off court and has been spotted spending late hours in their university's library, burning his eyebrows out as he read into the night along with the consequence of falling asleep in the lecture hall every now and then.
As for his bubbly partner, Hinata Shōyō has excelled on court as he has been constantly practicing until late into the night (courtesy of Haina Lev and Yamaguchi Tadashi, who coincidentally went into the same university as he and Kageyama). As for his studies, he's constantly been keeping up with his lectures while trying hard to not doze off in his lectures.
"We have a two-hour lecture in the afternoon tomorrow, am I right?" Hinata asked as he flipped through his notes and making annotations. Practice just ended and he and Kageyama were resting in their dorm rooms while lightly reviewing their notes for tomorrow. "Then it's off to practice immediately!" the orange-head added, pumping his fists in the air.
"Don't get too excited. You're immediately forgetting there's a test tomorrow and the professor said those who fail will be retaking the exam on the same day," Kageyama said which dispirited the active teen. "And here I was thinking I'd be able to practice right away," Hinata complained and slumped his head on the low-rise coffee table. Kageyama reached over from his side and ruffled Hinata's hair which made him look up.
"Think of it as a pass to go to practice," Kageyama said as a motivation. Hinata sighed and raised his head, his partner's hand still on his head. The orange-head held the hand on top of his head and brought it to his cheeks before nuzzling his face on it; Kageyama following suit by placing his other hand to the other side of Hinata's cheek and rubbing circles on his cheekbones.
"Your hands are more calloused than usual," Hinata commented. "The aftermath of practice, huh?" he added and smiled. Kageyama grumbled but breathed a sigh of relief nonetheless. "Do you wanna call it a night and just study tomorrow?" he suggested, fully aware of what that would bring tomorrow since they'll resort to cramming, a habit they're slowly trying to lessen.
Hinata's eyes brightened. "I thought you'd never ask!" He quickly packed his pens inside his pencil case and neatly stacked his books on the table. He then stood and held both of his hands out for Kageyama to reach and said, "Hurry, Tobiō, I want to sleep now. I'm so beat."
Kageyama took both of Hinata's hands into his and pulled himself up. The two walked towards the bed, hand in hand, and settled on it; Kageyama, being the big spoon, and Hinata, being the little spoon.
"You smell of oranges lately, Shōyō," the taller boy said, sniffing out Hinata's hair as he lightly brushed his fingers on it. Hinata enjoyed Kageyama's touch as they were careful and gentle, a different side to how he handles everything. "It's your favorite scent so I had to buy them," Hinata answered, inching closer to Kageyama until his head rested near the crook of his neck.
"Idiot. You didn't have to," the raven-head murmured and Hinata chuckled making him blush lightly. "Of course I had to." He reached up and kissed Kageyama's chin before going back to his neck and nuzzling his head there. "Tobiō is important to me that's why I had to." Kageyama was at a loss for words and seeing that he wasn't going to have any for the next couple of minutes, he brought his face closer to his partner's hair and kissed the top of his head; a good night gesture to end the day well.
Kageyama wrapped the blanket over their bodies and held Hinata close, careful of the way he handled him before closing his eyes. Although the streets were still filled with lights and noise, the duo slept soundly as ever, unaware of what the night still has to offer them.
