It all started when I first laid eyes on him. The young man with chocolate hair had recently arrived back from slaying the most fierce dragon! His tanned face had the most beautiful but faked smile as the ladies of the village wooed over him.

I stared from the distance, a basket of apples in hand. My shallow eyes wandered down his body. His armour was dirtied and even slightly bloodied; of course the ladies were helping him.
I stared at them. The night was clearly falling for one beautiful lady. Her name was Allura, she was a stunning female and her blonde hair was glistening, almost like the sun.
There was also Nyma, Romelle and Katie.
I had no competition with those girls... because I was yet another man.

I took a deep breath, and decided to walk to my home. I lived alone with a dog I had recently met, we became friends after I saved the puppy from predators. He hasn't told me his name yet, I know he will when he's ready.

Letting my gaze slowly drift from the wet cobble road and into a bush of red roses, a Melancholic sigh danced from my mouth. The roses were elegant and they were the most stunning red colour! Roses never used to catch my eye... until I realised something worth realising, that epiphany happened that day.
Roses had many petals, mothering the other and cuddling together to form something beautiful. Just like the layers of love.
The outside petals were weak and the first to fall, but yet the first to open to reveal a stunning inside. Another similarity between roses and love was the fact that if you tore away one of the inner petals, it wouldn't be the same.

That's when I felt my chest get tight, as if it was pulled together by ropes.
My apples collapsed out of my hands as I began to choke up blood, and something else very soft. I looked into my hands to see the petals of a rose.

I heard the tapping of feet running to me, the sound of armour clashing.
"Sir are you ok?"

My head turned and my eyes widened. Not here, not now. "I'm fine, why do you ask?" Was my only response as I hid my bloodied hand behind my back and picked up apples, back into the basket. Although there must've been a bit of blood running down my chin because he didn't go.
"There's no need to be so rude!" The noble man retorted "I was concerned about you."

My cheeks went pink after I turned away from him. "Well you know I'm perfectly fine"

"The names Lance" he paused "Lance McClain. You could at least tell me your name."

I made sure a groan escaped my lips, I couldn't be talking to him, he was a popular man who was in love with the most beautiful and perfect women, I was an outcasted man drawn by stunning guys. "Keith Kogane"

"Let me walk you home, Keith."

"Why?"

"I want to make sure you're ok, that's why!"

My walking stopped and I let him catch up to me. "Fine"

On the way home we talked, his smile was too pure and joyful. He told me his favourite flowers were hydrangea, because blue was his favourite colour and they really were beautiful. I swear, after that conversation I really did see Hydrangea way differently. They really were pretty.
He asked what my favourite flowers were, and I said roses out of impulse. It'd be embarrassing to say something like sunflower or something childish. I've always thought roses were mature.

Lance finally got to my door, he then saw Allura walking by the fountain. Her hair was being beautifully blown by the cool breeze and she had a loving smile. Her hand, was holding someone else's.

My gaze averted to Lance, and just as I would expect... his eyes seemed almost as if he was broken. "Hey..." I said, hoping to be a small help.

"I better go" he said as his chest went tight, wheezing to go with it.
"Lance I'll make you some tea or-"
I was cut off when he put his hand over his mouth, and some blue petals fell out.

Did he feel the same thing I did?
