Blood

Tyler's POV

The night was drawn out long, and by the time blurry was done with me I had the taste of blood on my tongue and blood covered my arms, clothes, neck, and face. The ground and blade were covered as well.

It looked like I had murdered someone,or like I had just made some kind of sacrifice.
The pain and blood were still pulsing from my arm. I tried to push myself up,but quickly realized that if I did I would fall unconscious.
I wiped the pocket knife with my black sleeve, and placed it back into my pocket with a crumple. I pulled out the paper and looked at the number scrawled out on it. I was hesitant to call him...but what other choice did I have?
I decided to text him to be sure he was awake first.

T: Josh...? This is Tyler...I really need to talk to you...

J: Yeah, sure Tyler what's up? It sounds like something's wrong...

T: I...dont really know how to explain this...but I need you to come pick me up from the forest behind my house....

J: What happened? I thought you were going home, not into the woods...

T: Like I said it's hard to explain...forget
I said anything,I'll figure something else out...

J: Tyler?

I ignored him and starting thinking, grasping for any idea that didn't involve anyone else.
"Damn it,"
I said to myself upset and defeated.

My phone rang,I looked down to see his name on the screen: Joshua Dun
I ended the call and started clenching my fists trying to see if I could get any feeling back into them,as they had gone numb.
Again my phone rang: Joshua Dun. I picked up this time, upset, and I could feel tears of hopelessness welling up in my eyes.
"W-hat do you wa-nt Josh?"
I asked angrily trying to cover my pathetic sobs.
"I want to help you Tyler, life can be hard sometimes, and I dont know what happened to you tonight, but I'm here to help you. You said you're in the woods behind your house right?"
He sounded genuinely concerned as he quietly and calmly spoke.
I bit my lip hoping my cries wouldn't turn into hiccups, but as I opened my mouth to speak, one escaped. I quickly shut my mouth hoping he hadn't heard.
"Oh Tyler..."
He said in a very breathy voice. I listened as door closed and then, what sounded like a zipper from a jacket.
"Hold on,just keep talking to me okay? And if you can't manage to talk just keep listening to me,its alright to cry. Im running that way now,I'll be over in a few minutes, just stay there."
I felt awful,he sounded worried, like he felt purple-grey-pink with a bit of blue, almost as if he was scared. Which made me feel worse...because I knew I was already hurting him. I continued to sob, trying to keep quiet, but in doing so it only emphasized the sounds that did escape from my mouth.
That's when I saw him running up to me,hanging up the phone. He was gorgeous in the pale moonlight,as it cascaded down his body.
As soon as he looked at me I saw his face flush even more pale than it already was, with fear.
"...i-....I'm so s-sorry J-Josh..."
I cried out to him,as my tears carried the dirt and blood that was on my cheeks.
He knealt down to me with tears in his mocha brown eyes, only one half of his face showing as the light reflected off of him.
"Wh-...,"
Josh brought a hand to cover his mouth and I could tell he was trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall down his perfect face.
"Wh-what...what happened Tyler...?"
He said, eyebrows raised,as his eyes looked deeply into mine with pain and hurt. I gathered myself and spoke slowly,
"He,d-did th-is to m-me Josh..."
The older boy looked at me confused,he carefully pulled me into a hug before saying,
"... I'm gonna take you home...and we're gonna clean you up,and you can tell me all about this then...its all gonna be okay..."
I couldn't tell if he said that last phrase for me or for himself.
Josh picked me up and brought me to my house, one arm hooked under my knees and the other at my shoulder blades.
My mom had left for work already,so Josh carried me upstairs into the small bathroom, setting me down gently onto the side of the tub.
"Let's get some of your clothes off yeah?"
He said kindly,as he helped me get the hoodie and shirt over my small frame and deep cuts.
He found a cloth in the cabinet under the sink, and turned the warm water on. Josh lightly held my cold limp wrist in his hand as he cleaned the cuts with as little pain as he could manage.
I was shivering and as soon as Josh was done he picked me up bringing me to my bed,and covering me with a blanket. He had me to take off my jeans and put some shorts, and a sweatshirt on. While I was changing he went downstairs, when he came back up he had a bowl of pasta and a glass of water. He handed them both to me along with a couple of pills.
"This will help with the pain,"
He quietly told me,taking a seat next to me on the bed.
"...Th-thank you Josh...b-but I'm not...hu-ngry...,"
I replied setting the warm bowl in my lap. He looked at me as if every word I said hurt him further.
Blurry was right...I was definitely a monster.
"...eat at least a few bites....for me? I know you haven't eaten today Tyler...I can spot a lie when I see it...,"
He was genuinely concerned...and I felt like shit... because with every passing second I was hurting this beautiful boy...
I struggled through a few bites, until I started feeling nauseous. Josh noticed, and took the bowl saying,
"I'm proud of you for eating Tyler...,"
Before he walked back downstairs.
While he was gone I took the medicine hoping it would help me to find some kind of relief.
Josh came back into the room, with the washcloth again. He placed his hand gently under my chin lifting my face to wipe away the rest of the blood, dirt, and tears. Only then did I actually get a good look at Josh, and the dark purple bruise that lined his jaw. Josh saw my eyes widen, and he pulled his hand back from my face as worry settled into his eyes.
"Ohmygod...Josh...wh-at ha-happened...?"
I asked quietly,I was worried about this boy and I hardly knew him.
He looked down as if he were ashamed,
"It's just m-....nothing....its nothing..."
I ducked my head down to where his eyes were glued, making him look at me,
"Josh,it's n-not noth-ing...,"
He looked away from me again, and tried adding a smile with his words,
"I fell down and hit the coffee table in the livingroom...I'm a clutz okay...?"
I knew he wasnt telling the truth...I had used that same fake smile too many times to be fooled by it.
"Josh...l-look at m-me..."
He obeyed
"...I know that th-at's n-not the truth...but I'm not going t-to force you to t-tell me...you do th-that in your own time...I'll be here for you w-when you're r-ready to talk..."
Josh smiled warmly at me,but this time it was real. I could tell it was because his eyes creased at the corners. I felt my face heat up as it turned red.
The older boy placed his hand back under my chin lifting my face to meet his gaze. We both leaned in and my eyes slowly fluttered shut. I could feel his warm red lips pressed against my pale faded ones. They parted, and slowly came together a few times, before he gently pulled away.
Josh's face was a bright shade of pink,as he went back to cleaning my face.
Once he was done we laid back on the bed in silence, just enjoying each other's company, until we fell asleep.
