The Ocean Between Us

Chapter 9

Toshinori

The University of Alberta was buzzing with talk of All Might showing up to give a lecture about heroics and quirks. All Might had shown up early to prepare himself but was still surrounded by a barrage of people, even as early as 8am.

This is what you signed up for when you wanted to be the world's pillar of justice, All Might thought with a smile.

"Thank you everyone! I must go prepare for the lecture, see you around!" His voice deep and jolly as usual. The people clapped and cheered, and then slowly dispersed and went about their day. All Might ducked into the room preserved for him and sat down in a large comfortable looking desk chair.

That stereotype about Canadians is totally correct. He smiled warmly. I hope I'll get to see Joanna today. Taking his briefcase, he pulled out some papers and reviewed them for a little while. He looked at the clock above his head.

"8:50." He muttered. "Someone was supposed to come get me for the lecture five minutes ago."

Knock knock!

All Might stood up and faced the door, straightening out his black suit jacket. The door opened, and in walked a young woman with brown hair and an albino stripe flowing down the side of her face.

"Mr. All Might? H-hi, it's nice to meet you."

"What? You want me to escort him to the lecture hall?" Joanna almost shrieked with excitement when her professor gave her the news.

"Yes! You're a proper student who's been here for years, you know the place like the back of your hand, as I once heard you say." Professor Pringleton said in his strange ancient voice. "You can show him to the hall! Now I must go, he's in room 0-318. Go say your hello, get an autograph, I don't care! Just make sure he gets to the hall by 9 o'clock!"

Joanna gulped nervously. "Yes sir."

Joanna... Toshinori couldn't believe what he was seeing. It took every ounce of his energy to remind himself that he doesn't know who she is and that she's just going to escort him to the lecture hall. But he couldn't help but admire her beauty, and he certainly couldn't ignore the surge of pain that speared through his heart.

"Yes! I am here! I'm ready for this lecture!" He grinned a bit awkwardly and extended his hand to shake hers.

Smooth, All Might, Toshinori groaned internally.

Joanna grinned nervously and shook his hand. His heart just wanted to crumble; he was finally making physical contact with the girl he loved so much.

"If you'll just follow me, I'll take you to the l-lecture hall." Joanna turned around and walked out the door, with All Might following close behind her. The campus was so large, they walked for a while until they reached a set of doors.

"O-okay, here it is." Joanna smiled shyly and extended her hand toward the doors.

Oh she's so shy, Toshinori thought, his heart breaking little by little. Say something to her and make her blush!
