Megan strained against the cuffs, blood running over her hands. She opens her eyes groggely and tried to focus on one spot until her vision cleared up.
She saw drying blood splatters on her arms, she sucked in a breath when she sees Tina's lifeless body next to her lying in a pool of her own blood.Megan looked to the side and there was Valentine sitting on a steel spiral staircase looking at her.
"Jake uncuff her and place her on the mattress".
Jake opened up the cell and uncuffed Megan placing her on the mattress. She moved to the ground letting the mattress support her back.
"Are you thirsty?" Valentine asked Megan. She shook her head up and down.
"Give her some water and leave that gag off".
After Jake covered Tina's body with a dirty blanked that was lying in the corner of the cell he bent over Megan and pressed the rim of his waterbottle against her lips.
The burning sensation in her throat grew more. She opened her mouth and let the cool water trace its way inside her mouth. Thick saliva lined the inside of Megans mouth immediately sapping all moisture that enters.
Megan swallowed again, every swallow was like broken glass down her dry throat and her eyes watered with the effort.
She pulled away when she had enough.
"Thank you", she said looking up to Jake. He nodded and walked out the cell locking the steel gate behind him. Before Jake turned around he gestured with his eyes to something next to Megan.
She pretended to rub her cheek on her shoulder and saw a single key lying next to her on the mattress."Leave us," Valentine ordered.
Jake left without a backwards glance.
"Why are you doing this Valentine?" Megan asked.
Valentine first looked down at his hands and then up to Megan again. "I had a son once, he died when he was only 4 years old, awaiting a heart transplant. From the day he was born he was on the transplant list. Me and my wife anxiously waited for the phone to ring every single day. But the call never came.
He died, my wife left me, I lost everything that I loved, and that mattered to me that day. I'm only giving people a chance to save their loved once. A chance I never got."
