After getting of the helicopters and sitting in the waiting room for hours, Megan was near dying.
She wanted to know what was going on with Brad right then, before her brain shut down.
Everybody will be perpetually and constantly looking up at the clock. The stress spread through their minds like ink on paper.
The hallway has as much personality as the rest of the hospital. The floor is slate grey and the walls dove. Above the ceiling is made from those polystyrene squares laid on a grid-like frame. The air had a pure fragrance, not sterile, just clean.Megan's stomach shifts uneasily and she noticed that the hands that she's hugging herself with are pinching into her skin. She release her hands but then she couldn't figure out what to do with them, so instead they clasp and unclasp each other as if in constant need of touch and reassurance.
After being hours in the theater the Doctor approached Megan and Brad's team. He looked exhausted. He analyzed the chart for a few seconds and looked up. His eyes showed the kind of gentle concern Megan's grandfather used to have. He laid his hand lightly on her shoulder,"Hey there, I'm Doctor Bradford. What's your name?"
"Megan Hunt and this is Brad's team mates. How is he doing Doctor?" Doctor Bradford gestured for them to sit down. Megan sits on the edge of the chair, she placed her hands on her knees with the intention to stop them from bouncing every five seconds.
"Mr Price is as stable as we could get him for now, he is in an induced coma, also known as a medically-induced coma, a barbiturate-induced coma, or a barb coma, is a temporary (a deep state of unconsciousness) brought on by a controlled dose of a barbiturate drug, usually or penobarbital or thiopental".
Megan took in a deep, ragged breath before placing her hands, enclosed together, onto the table."Why?" Megan wanted to know.
"Mr Price had a seizure while we were operating on him. He is also on a dialysis machine and on a mechanical ventilator".
Megan clasp her hands over mouth.
"What is the dialysis machine for? ", Eric asked concerned.
"Mr Price was shot in the shoulder, one of his lungs and through both kidneys. The dialysis machine takes over the kidneys job filtering blood". Doctor Bradford explained everything in words they all could understand.
For the most part Megan understood what was going on and periodically he would stop to address her directly, to explain the next procedure and what its purpose was.
"Will the machine be able to heal his kidneys?" Dan asked this time.
"The dialysis machine is only a treatment, but unfortunately it cannot fully cure the kidneys. I'm sorry to tell you guys this but Mr Price will need a kidney transplant as soon as possible. His life depends on it".
The tears burst forth like water from a dam, spilling down Megan's face.
"You can test me to see if our blood match", she said through tears.
"Well hell Doc any of us will gladly donate a kidney you can test us all".
"It's not that simple", Doctor Bradford said looking at the chart in his hand. "Mr Price has an extremely rare blood type called Rhnull or the cooler name Golden Blood.
" Why is it called so?" Stanley asked." "Because it is the rarest blood type in the entire world. So rare that only around 40 people are recorded to have it and there are only 9 donors in the world, that we know off. Does Mr Price have any living relatives that we can test?"
