I woke up with a start and my eyes instantly searched my surroundings. Fortunately, I was in my room, in the comfort of my bed. I took a deep breath and hugged my knees to my chest; falling back against the headboard.

My mind wandered back to the nightmare I just had. Or should I call it a dream? I really don't know.

I was with Evan in my dream, who was hugging me. It was all so real. I could still feel his breath against my neck, the warmth of his body, the feel of his hands entwined with mine.

If I had this dream before everything fell apart, I would have been dancing around with joy. But now I just had to calm my heart which was aching at his touch after getting a taste of it; even if it was within a dream.

"Stupid dreams and stupid heart," I muttered, getting out of bed and making my way downstairs to the kitchen.

My mom and Em were already at the table eating. Emily had her cereal bowl balanced in her lap and her head was buried into the cartoon playing on my mom's phone.

"Where's Ty?," I asked, as I poured myself some milk from the fridge.

"Out. Soccer practice, I think. Your dad's coming home today," my mom replied.

"That's great," I smiled before making my way upstairs and back to my room.

After eating, showering and changing into a new set of pajamas, I sat in front of the T.V with Em, watching Power Puff girls. A while later, the front door opened and dad stepped in. I got up and went over to greet him but stopped mid track when I saw his face.

Swollen red eyes met min and it didn't take a genius to realize something was very wrong.

And it was.

Not even looking at us, my dad walked towards his bedroom, with me and Emily following him. My mom was sitting on the bed, reading a book and she glanced at us as she heard us approach.

"Give your dad something to drink," my mom told me, before returning to her book.

"I don't want something to drink," dad said but mom did not look up. " I'm not going to do what you asked."

What did mom ask for that had my dad so upset? I didn't have to wait long for an answer.

"I'm not going to give you a divorce," dad announced.

My heart stopped.

A divorce?

"If you want one, you can go to court. But my kids will stay with me."

"Raymond...," my mom closed her book, getting off the bed. That was our cue to leave. I took Emily's hand and led her upstairs, all the way to the roof.

Oblivious to the situation, she ran around on the roof; pretending to catch butterflies whilst I stood there, trying to process what I had just heard.
