Marisol's POV- March 2018

The doorbell rang and I sighed as it did not stop ringing. My Alaskan Klee Kai, Bugs(y) bolted out of the room already barking. There was only one person who did this and he happened to be related to me.

"I'm coming!" I called out as I walked down the stairs.

Bugs was already waiting by the door as I disabled the alarm system in order to unlock the door. I picked my pup up because he had a horrible habit of bolting out. Yes, there was a gate, but the person on the other side had a horrible habit of never actually closing the front gate door.

"Hey" I greeted as I opened the door.

Leo, my cousin smiled at me as he stepped inside.

"I bring food"

I glanced at the two bags of takeout he was holding.

"I can see" I noted.

I closed the door and set Bugs down.

"The amount of takeout containers there is not acceptable" I stated.

Leo rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, well you didn't want to go out for dinner so you're to blame"

I followed him to the kitchen where he set the food on the counter.

"Is Uncle Danny home?"

I shook my head.

"Oh, well I brought him food too"

Dad would be getting back from work pretty late tonight, but I'm sure even at that time he'd eat his Chinese food.

"I'm sure he will eat it when he gets home" I stated.

He nodded.

"So let's eat"

"Did you ask for plates and forks?" I wondered.

"No, you always yell at me when I do"

"We are fully capable of washing dishes and eating utensils" I defended.

He simply scrunched up his nose as he began taking out the takeout containers from the bag.

"You made me start using stainless steel straws, what more do you want from me?"

I smiled.

"To be more aware of what is happening to our environment" I replied.

"I am aware, but on a student budget it's kind of expensive"

"That nice engineering degree will bring in money" I stated.

He chuckled.

"I got to finish my Masters and get my license to get those earnings, Mari"

I handed him a plate and a fork.

"When's your day off?" I asked.

"Thursday"

"We should do something" I suggested.

Thursdays were usually not my off days, but I had finished my volunteer hours for the month already.

"So you're free on Thursday?"

"Yes," I confirmed.

He sighed with relief.

"Okay good, because I was supposed to tell you that Desi has 5 tickets for Opening Day"

Fuck.

"Why does she have so many?" I questioned.

"She's dating Chris Taylor"

Wait...what?

"Since when?" I wondered.

He shrugged.

"Does it matter?"

Kind of, yeah.

"He got us tickets right behind home plate"

I suddenly found the pattern on the takeout container incredibly fascinating. Now was the time to talk about something I had been keeping to myself for the last couple of months.

"Uh, remember the guy I was talking to" I mentioned.

"What about him?"

I took a deep breath as I looked at Leo.

"It was Cody Bellinger" I disclosed.

Leo didn't seem phased at all.

"Oh, well I guess the nickname makes sense"

I used to refer to Cody as Angel Eyes and he absolutely hated it.

"Does, Lucy know it's Cody Bellinger?"

"No" I replied.

I actually didn't know he played for the Dodgers because well I don't really keep up with sports. Lucy, my bestfriend is a huge Dodger fan and she convinced me to go to a game with her. The starting first baseman was Cody, and Lucy informed me that he was having such a good season that he would most likely be the recipient of NL Rookie of the Year.

"She would have murdered him"

Lucy was really protective of me, which was kinda funny considering she was younger than me.

"I was going to tell her but decided against it" I stated.

"So why'd you stop talking?"

"He stood me up to go on date with a girl" I answered.

His eyes widened.

"Maybe you should have told Lucy"

I laughed.

"Did you like see it yourself or?"

"I called his phone and his mom answered" I replied.

He raised an eyebrow.

"His mom told you then?"

"Yup" I confirmed.

"So like did you ever confront him? Get his side of the story?"

"No" I responded.

He slowly nodded.

"So do I have to tell Desi that you won't be going to the game?"

I shook my head.

"No, I'm going to the game" I stated.

"So like...would you be willing to hear him out?"

I looked at him.

"I don't know" I admitted.

There were lots of feelings that rushed through my body that day like betrayal and anger, and I did deserve an apology. He left me many voicemails and text messages before finally getting the hint to leave me alone. Was I ready to see him? Will my feelings for him come back? Would I slap him in the face?

"He's going to be at Desi's tomorrow, ain't he?"  I guessed.

"Most likely, Cody is Chris' roommate"

I took a deep breath and bit my lip.

"Let me think about it," I told him.

"Don't over think it"

Too late, Leo. Too fucking late.
