Cody's POV- April 2018

My eyes snapped open as I felt a light touch on my back.

"Cody, I have to head to school"

I shifted on my back and blinked a couple of times. As my sight adjusted I noticed that Marisol was no longer in her PJs.

"Dad will probably head out soon, so I left you the alarm passcode on the notepad on my desk"

She squeezed my shoulder.

"Stay as long as you want, there's food in the fridge"

"Thank you," I told her.

"You are not a bother, Cody"

"Honestly, thank you. I'm sorry you witnessed that" I confessed.

So what did she witness? I had some form of panic attack last night.

"You should have told someone"

I sat up as she took a seat next to me."I feel really bad because I'm the reason you're not talking to your mom"

"She was incredibly mean to you" I reminded her.

"It doesn't matter, she's your mom and in her mind, she thought it was the right thing to do"

She smiled down at me.

"I don't expect an apology from your mom, and neither should you. I really like you, Cody, I honestly do but do you think it's worth it?"

"She just has to get to know you," I pushed.

If my mom actually got to know Marisol she would realize why I was so stubborn about wanting her in my life.

"It's nice to know you like me" I pointed out.

She laughed.

"That's what you got out of it?"

Kinda.

"I have to go, or else I'll be late"

"What time is it?" I asked.

She touched her home button on her phone making the screen light up.

"How long does the drive take?" I questioned.

"About an hour"

It was 8:20 AM and her class started at 10 AM. She still had to find parking, so yeah she did have to go.

"What time are you out?" I wondered.

"I should be back by 4:30"

"Do you want to come to the game?" I suggested.

She looked at me.

"I can make it to your game"

"Okay, great. I'll leave the ticket in the front for you" I told her.

She gave me a hug and went to kiss my cheek. I tried to give her a kiss on the cheek at the same time, so our lips lightly grazed each other. While I froze, she actually kissed my cheek and squeezed me.

"I'll see you then"

And just like that, she was gone. I decided to stay in the clothes that I had been given to sleep in, and quickly cleaned up/gathered my stuff. Once her dad was gone, I walked downstairs and reset the alarm. As I walked out, the gate opened. I pulled my car out of the property, and I watched as the door slowly began to close. Chris was already home when I got in.

"There you are"

I guess I looked liked shit because he looked at me with wide eyes.

"I made us breakfast"

He felt bad, and this was a pity meal.

"I kinda want to shower," I said before making my way to my room.

Shower first, maybe eat and then nap. As I walked into my room after my shower, I noticed that breakfast was on the bed. Chris had made pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. He even left me a cup of coffee and milk on the nightstand. There was a light knock on the door as I was halfway through my meal.

"Come in" I called out.

Kinda had no other choice.

"Hey"

Chris leaned against the doorway as he looked at me.

"You looked like"

He stopped and scratched his jaw.

"Like shit" I finished for him.

"Are you okay?"

"Don't know" I admitted.

There was no point in lying to him.

"I owe you an apology"

"You really don't" I stated.

I shrugged.

"You're not my babysitter, and don't need to look after me. I can do it on my own, right? I'm an adult" I explained.

I wasn't hungry anymore, so I stood up.

"I'm gonna go for a walk, don't wait up for me," I told him.

Turns out Chris does not listen because when I got home to go to practice he was still there.

"Ready to go?"

I guess I did not have a choice.
