Hospital Visits

Toby's POV

I've gotten a total of two hours of sleep the past two days. I am constantly at Emma's bedside. Her uncle from Colorado was flying in today. I'm not sure where her mother is, but I assume my mom has called her.

Riley, Alex, and Justin are also in the room. We practically had to force the rest of them to go home. Riley tried to get me to go home, but I refused.

I scan the white room. Riley was answering tweets (I'm assuming they are about Emma). Justin was staring at the tiles, his coffee sitting cold in his hands. Alex was sitting on the left side of the bed, holding Emma's hand. I am on the opposite side doing the same. It's funny that Emma has so many people just in this room to protect her, and yet here we are. Tears form in my eyes, but I quickly blink them away. I needed to be strong for her.

Suddenly I hear commotion outside of the room. I look over at Emma to see if she stirs, but she stays still. Two men walk into the room with my mother behind them.

"Boys, I think you need a break. Let's go get something to eat."  My mother suggests. The three get up, Alex giving me a quick nod, and leave the room. My mom raises her eyebrows at me but I say, "I'm not leaving her." She chooses not to argue.

After she leaves, the older man walks up to me and sticks out his hand.

"I'm Bill, Emma's uncle." I stand and shake his hand.

"I'm Toby, Emma's boyfriend."

"It's nice to meet you. How is she?" We both look down at her, and I grab her cold hand again.

"The doctor's say she's stable, but don't know when she'll wake up. . . if ever." I whisper the last part. The room goes silent.

"I'm Luke." The boy says.

"Nice to meet you. Are you her cousin?" I ask, glad he is attempting conversation.

"No, childhood friend." Then I recognize the voice. The voice from the phone when Emma was away. I thought she was cheating on me. I look away.

"Toby." I turn to the door to see Riley. "Come with me."

"I'm not leaving her." I say shaking my head.

"Toby, I got her. I promise to text you if she wakes up." Alex says. I bite my lip, but nod. I lean down and kiss Emma on the head. I feel Luke's stare on me the whole time.
