“Can I open my eyes yet?!” I ask Jack, eagerly growing just slightly impatient. Jack is taking me out to lunch as a special treat as it is both of our last days at our school forever. I am wearing one of Jacks red scarfs as a blindfold and he is guiding me along, not letting my fall. I have banged into one lamppost and I hope it was a joke.

“Not yet but very, very soon” Jack’s voice goes croaky like a frog and he has to cough into his hands realising his grip on my hips. He wipes his hands (I hope) and leads me down a concrete path (I think) and soon I hear music.

“Can I open now?!” I ask almost bursting with excitement and curiosity. Jack doesn’t answer for at least a minute. I don’t say anything else until he answers me back.

“Now you can” Jack chirps and takes his hands off my hips. I untie the knot in the knitted scarf and gasp as I see a bright neon pink sign. I have always wanted to go to the 60’s diner on the flowery, grassy hill a block away from my school.

“Oh thanks so much Jack!” I say overjoyed, throwing my arms around him.

“Not a bother, it’s all for you!” He kisses my forehead. I snuggle into him tightening my grip on him. He does the same until we are both nearly wheezing!

“Now shall we?!” Jack takes my hand and we stroll off into the diner.

A cheerful looking woman with red hair tied back into bunches greets us. She has rosy red cheeks and piercing green eyes. She wears a baby pink dress down to her knees with a matching apron and finished with a pair cool roller-skates.

“Oh hello, are you the Farren couple?” She has a sing song voice.

“Yeah, that’s us” Jack squeezes my hand making me chuckle, the woman thinks we’re married.

“Oh, I just love couples!” She claps her hands together. The name tag on her apron reads Mary. She suits her name.

“That’s great then” I giggle. Jack giggles with me and soon Mary joins in.

“Now let’s get you two lovebirds seated!” She skates down the pale pink and snow white checked tiled floor. She stops at a silver table with love heart shaped napkins and a stand stacked with muffins.

“This is lovely, thank you!” Jack looks pleased and I nod gratefully.

“So how long have you two been married?” Mary grins slamming her hands down on the table.

“Just a month now miss” Jack says happily without hesitating.

“I bet it has been pure bliss!” Mary once again claps her hands put this time three times. A violinist appears by our table.

“We may be a diner but we all love romance!” The violinist says. He is a man with straight dark brown hair. Mary sets two menus down before leaving.
