April 2014

Today is a beautiful summer day. The sky is clear and the sun is shining. Today is also special because it's the first day of school. New year full of excitement. I combed my hair and waved goodbye to mom and dad. Dad will be going out of town today for a few days due to work. So I gave him a big hug. We spent the last night having a lot of fun. We went for a movie in the evening and played video games all night. Well, almost all night since it was a school night. Not to brag but I'm really good at those video games. I won four of the five rounds in one of those games.

I hopped inside the bus and found Kaira and Kashish sitting next to each other by the window. I sat next to them and we were chatting the whole way till we reached school. Everyone was excited for the first day of the new class.

"We have to be at Mrs. Helen's by 4 after school, okay. Don't be late. Do you want us to pick you or you'll reach on your own?" Kaira asked.

"Oh nah. It's fine. I'll be there on time don't worry." I replied.

The school ended by three and everybody was leaving. It was a fun day. I made some new friends too. Generally, I'm not the one to initiate a conversation or go to people to make friends but with Kashish and Kaira I felt a little confident. I reached home and changed my dress. Packed my bag, had some snacks for the way and left for Mrs. Helen's house.

I was kind of nervous on my way. To be honest, I always want teachers to like me and I kind of like to make a good impression on them. Sounds silly but I can't deny it. And when I told her about my grades I got that feeling that I was not making a very good first impression. Nevertheless, I wanted to try still and make a good impression.

We sat in her living room with chairs spread all across and opened our math books. There were only three of us; Kashish, Kaira and I. Two more people were supposed to come. So, for the time being Mrs. Helen was teaching the 8th graders. There were three of them as well. She used to teach us all together. While we were assigned some task she would teach 8th graders and vice versa. Even with this multitasking, we were surprisingly able to understand it everything better than school.

By the time we finished our task, one of the students had arrived. Her name was Malini. We were talking and discussing the task with her when the teacher announced, "we are just waiting for one more and then we'll begin with the chapter."

We all nodded and continued chatting. A few minutes went by and the door opened to reveal a tall teenage boy, just about our age; smiling towards us.

Who is he? Why is he smiling like that?

I looked at him and felt something weird. Something I had never felt before. I had this feeling that something big is about to happen. Good? Bad? I was not very sure about that. I wasn't even sure whether he was looking at the three of us or just me, but the look in his eyes and that smile felt like a beginning of something. Not necessarily good.
