"Yeah well okay then" she said sarcastically. She reached over the bag of popcorn which I had brought from downstairs and began munching on them after ripping the pack open.
"I know you don't believe me but I know a thing or two about guys"
"Oh yeah, like what?"
"I can tell you based on your conversation whether or not he's lying."
She looked at me smiling sarcastically. I knew she wouldn't believe me. That's the thing with her, once she start liking someone she almost completely becomes blind and deaf so much as to not listen to my advice. And once it's all over, it's like a whole river flowing from her eyes mixed with guilt and ultimate statement saying, "I should've listened to you". And I always end up consoling her with my insides screaming, "I told ya".
But this time I am not going to let her fall into that pit. She needs to listen to me. I've got nothing against her being in a relationship, but it should be with the right person. Nobody has got the right to make her feel like she's not good enough. Because I know, she deserves better.
"Okay then, tell me how's that?" she said breaking the silence.
"Well you know I've got some experience"
Her eyes widened. She looked at me as though I was about to break a big news about me being in a relationship or something like that. She always used to tease me that if I don't talk to boys I'm going to die alone. I knew that I need to be more socially active but she doesn't get it how difficult it is for me. Now, with her expression I know she thinks that I found someone and she's just dying to know more about it.
"NO WAY... WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?! OHMYGOD WHO IS IT? TELL ME EVERYTHING"
She almost practically screamed at me. And all I could think about was whether or not she needs water? Geez, she was out of breath! So much excitement in one sentence.
"Okay, you need to calm down. It's not what you think it is. I mean there was a boy but there's a whole other story to that"
"Oh... why didn't you tell me?"
"Once you were off to Italy, I was so stuck in that mess and then we weren't able to talk. So..."
She looked at me realising how much we missed each other. She threw her arm around my shoulder in an attempt to cheer me up. I think we both knew that we were guilty of not being able to take some time out for each other.
She took my phone and clicked a selfie.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I am putting this as our profile picture. First yours and then mine"
I smiled. It was a weird way to cope up with the guilt but I don't mind it. As long as she is with me, I don't think anything else matters. She's one of those few friends that you need in life.
She scrolled through my contacts to send her the picture and that's when she pointed it out.
"Is he the one who troubled you?"
I looked at the pointed contact. Jay. Tap to unblock and chat.
She smiled looking at my still and blank face and turned the phone towards herself.
"Hmm... so there we have it. Mr. Jay. I remember you mentioning him a few months ago. What happened with him? I never got to know the full story."
I smiled at her. It was this moment when everything came back.
"It's a long story".
