Morning came to early. It always does on a Monday. It didn't help that I was up at 6 o'clock. Remember that English assignment I needed to do? Yeah, I kinda did it then.
By the time I was heading to the bus stop I was zonked, I had my headphone in and the volume had been maxed, hoping that it would wake me up . Getting on the bus I found my usual seat only find that I had somebody sitting in the one next to it. Not that it's unusual to have some stranger sitting next to you on he bus, it was just this person wasn't a complete stranger.
Sitting down I placed by worn out bag on my lap smiling politely at the almost stranger.
"So we meet again." He said smiling. I chuckled
"Yes it seems so." Seeing as it was lighter and I could actually see him, I took the time to study him. His hair seemed more of a very dark brown instead of black, it suited him. Up close I questioned his age. Strong jaw, hard blue eyes, he had to be over 19, but his smile made him seem younger, defiantly under 25.
We sat in a comfortable silence, I was listening to my music, taping my foot in time with the beat. The bus ride took my school took about half an hour depending on how often the driver was willing to break the speed limit.
Speaking of buses, "How come your taking the bus?" I asked spontaneously, taking out one of my headphones so I could hear his answer. A bit rude, the whole asking a complete stranger random question, but I was curious.
"Pardon?"
"Why are you on the bus? You were driving a car last night. Why pay for the bus if you have a car?" Eric looked at me like he was surprised at someone being curious. I played with the sleeve on my school jumper, suddenly losing my confidence. Maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut.
"You are sharp." He muttered to himself. " It wasn't my car." He said. I looked up at him. Not his car, then whose was it? "It's my dads encase you were wondering. He let me borrow it last night but he's using it to go to work this morning, hence why I'm on the bus." I nodded, seemed like an honest answer. "How about you?" He asked. "What were you doing running down the street at 10 o'clock at night?"
I smiled. "Nothing bad. Don't worry." He smiled as if asking me to continue. " I was going home after babysitting my ex bosses kids. It was raining, so I decided to run back."
"You know I would have happily gave you a lift back to your house."
I looked at him raising an eyebrow. "Wasn't you ever told as a child not to get into a strangers car?" Eric shrugged his shoulders in response.
"You knew my name, I knew yours. We weren't strangers."
I scoffed. "It doesn't work like that."
"Then how does it?" He questioned, his happy attitude changing into a more mature, colder one. I frowned. An unsettled feeling in the pit of my stomach made itself known. Something didn't feel right.
The bus stopped. I stood up glad to be getting away from the tone the conversation had turned to. Putting a smile in my face I turned to Eric. "Well it was nice seeing you again Eric."
"Likewise Billy."
I nodded, it was my way of saying either 'hello' or 'goodby', and made my way off the bus and into the school.
~~~~~~~~
The school I went to wasn't the biggest. Holding just over 500 pupils the school was a perfect size. Only problem with a school that small, everyone knows everybody. You can pretty much garentee that by the time you leave the school you would have been taught by every single teacher at some point. Rumours spread like wildfire and so do illnesses. Seriously one kid has a cold, by the end of the week the whole school has it. Not fun.
Walking across the school field I made my way to where I usually meet Tasha. Tasha was my best friend, actually she was kinda my only friend really. It wasn't that I was a nerd or considered a social outcast, I just never really got talked with me peers enough to really get to know them. I only started talking to Tasha by accident, heck I only met her by accident. I didn't mean to spill my drink over her during my first week of school. It just happened. But since then we have been joint at he hip. Tasha thinks like me, shares the same sense of humour and sarcasm as me as well. I think that's why we get a long so well.
I rounded the corner and spotted the familiar red head leaning against the school walls surrounded by half the football team. Tasha was pretty, very pretty. A vibrant red head with a equally bright personality that drew people in. How could anyone not like her? But no matte how many lads swarmed around her, she only had eyes for one. It was quite sweet really, here is a pretty popular girl who has a major crush on one of the shyest boys in the school. Screw it, it was adorable. Of course nobody but me knew this and secretly I have been playing Cupid much to Tasha's dismay but she hasn't stopped me yet.As I approached she shooed the boy off, some of them looking very dishearten. One of them probably went to ask her out and she shattered their heart into a million pieces. That was one of her flaws when it came to guys. She never spared their feelings. Doesn't sound like too much of a problem does it? But it is. You see the guy that Tasha really, really liked also liked her (hence me playing Cupid) but he was too scared to ask her incase she broke his heart and what little confidence he had.
"Sup stranger." She said giving me a side hug.
"Nothing much." I chuckled.
"You done the paper the Roach set?" She asked. I nodded. The Roach was our English teacher. He wasn't a bad teacher but due to an cockroach infestation in his classroom a couple of years back he had earned the name the Roach.
After idle chatter the bell had rung and we where heading to class. We were walking across the field once again to get to the sports hall, passing the front drive way off the school that connected to the main road, when something caught my eye. A black car, more specifically a black 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS, was parked in the side walk across from the school. Squinting slightly I tried to make out the number plate. LC64 AFE. I stopped in my tracks causing Tasha to walk into me. "What the hell Billy." She exclaimed but I wasn't listening. What was the chances of that!? I looked again wondering if I was mistaken or maybe just being paranoid.
I wasn't.
There, barely two hundred meters away from me was the exact same car Eric was driving last night. The exact same car he said wasn't his. The exact same Eric who had been sitting right next to the seat I had sat in everyday on my way for school for he past five years. My face paled. That had to be coincidence.
"Billy!" I felt a hand on my shoulder. Out of pure habit I sound round reaching to grab the hand and floor who ever had snuck up on me. It was only Tasha, aren't I glad that I stopped myself before I could floor her. Noticing she had my attention she spoke. "Gee whizz Billy what's wrong with you?" It sounded offensive but I knew it was her way of asking me if I was ok.
I glanced back at the car. "I think I have a stalker." I mumbled. She didn't hear me.
"Hm?"
I shook my head. "It's nothing don't worry I thought I saw somebody I knew. " she looked at me like I was mad but I was used to that by now. Tearing my eyes from the car I looked at her. "We should get to class, we're going to be late."____
