At 3:00am I give up trying to sleep and tip toe down the stairs. Everyone is asleep. Especially tired after spending an hour in the cold looking at pumpkins and hanging out.
One thing I do miss about Vancouver was being able to leave all the lights on at 2am. Grandma slept like a rock. The house was basically mine.
I used to 'sneak out', which required no effort, all the time and meet up with Jake and Arianna. Grandma would let them both sleep over all the time. Even on school nights. Our house was definitely a lot smaller then the one here but it was cozy. A small little bungalow.
I grab a cookie Phoebe had made earlier and go look out the back door. It may be cold but I love sitting out in the dark. Especially when the moon is out.
Deciding that I have nothing better to do, I mumble a fuck it and look in the living room for a blanket.
Once I find one I slowly slide the back door open and slip out into the backyard.
I go sit on the couch under the gazebo. It's absolutely freezing out so I wrap the blanket around myself.
I get cozy on the couch and stare at the sky till I eventually feel tired and start to drift off. I don't realize I'd fallen asleep till someone pokes me awake. Scaring the shit of me.
"Isaac?" I say now sitting up.
"Yeah."
"What the hell are you doing out here?"
"And you're asking me," he laughs.
The moon behind him makes him appear more of silhouette. His hairs a mess and he's got the same hoodie on as earlier but a pair of Auguste's joggers.
"Couldn't sleep." I shrug. "And you?"
"I was awake and I heard someone else awake so I got bored and went to the bathroom. When I heard the back door open I looked out the window and you were sitting, with a blanket, in the cold."
"Hey it's nice outside."
"Normal people are asleep at this time."
"I mean I was asleep a second ago," I mumble.
"Ah yes I will just leave you to freeze. You're going to get a cold."
I move over a bit allowing him to sit down and share my blanket.
"Yeah whatever. I like it out here."
"You're so weird."
"You're out here too."
"Only because you are."
"I like to sit outside at night."
"I know. You did it when we were camping even though you were frozen."
"Stalker."
"We shared a tent. And you're so loud just Auguste could sleep through a hurricane."
"Still, stalker."
I smile a bit. A little drowsy from being tired.
"You should go inside," Isaac says. "You're clearly tired and cold."
"No. Not yet."
"Okay. Want me to go inside?"
"No."
"Okay."
We sit there in silence for a while.
