Chapter Fourteen

Ariel

Silence was all that was left behind in the wake of the girl's departure. Raziel and Ariel didn't move, not knowing what to do, what to say. Ariel knew he had to have questions he wanted answers for. She just didn't know if she was prepared to answer those questions. She would much rather avoid it all and continue on their way.

But alas, that wasn't to be.

"What was that?" His voice was a strained whisper; as if he was so overwhelmed by what had happened, so confused by what had occurred.

Yes, Raziel would have his answers. He wouldn't take no as an answer.

Refusing to look in his direction, she simply shrugged her shoulders. She didn't want to think about it. She didn't want to look back on what she had done. There was too great a risk that she would lose control and her hold on her emotions would break. She couldn't let herself be that vulnerable.

All that surrounded her for a few moments was silence. A silence that was broken when Raziel moved out of her peripheral vision to stand before her, giving her less freedom to ignore his presence, his questioning. His strong hands came up until they gripped her shoulders preventing her from turning away from his questioning gaze.

"Ariel, what you just did, you shouldn't have been able to do. As a brand new Fallen your powers should have been all but completely diminished. A mere fraction of what they had been prior to your Fall. You may have been able to do a small act of little significance. But nothing of this magnitude."

Ariel blinked up at him, confused, finding that suddenly it was hard to breathe. What was he blathering on about? She shouldn't have been able to do that? And why exactly was that important? She hadn't even thought to care what she had done.

"I did something out of the ordinary. So what?"

Raziel gave her shoulders a small shake. "No Fallen angel has been able to perform so close to their original power level. Not so soon after the Falling."

"You just tore that man's brain apart from the inside out! How is that not powerful?"

His head shook, his exasperation clear. "Ariel, I have been exiled on this land for nearly 200 years. I have gained back some of my power over time. It's just a portion of my former power capacity but still, it took a lot of time."

Ariel couldn't wrap her mind around what he was saying. But she couldn't find it in her to care about what he trying to tell her. She just couldn't. It was becoming harder and harder to breathe. Her chest was constricting as the breath was continuously yanked out of her. Little by little until she has none left.

She felt her consciousness slipping. She tried to hold on, not wanting to go wherever it wanted to take her but it wasn't to be.

She tried one more time to fill her lungs but failed as darkness became all she knew.

"Angelus paulo, I will have you. I will have my revenge."

Hands grasped at her pulling, yanking. She twisted and writhed, attempting to unhand herself. She didn't want to go with the owner of the voice.

"No! You won't have me! I won't go!"

A dark rasping chuckle filled her ears. "It is amusing that you believe you have a choice."

She scrambled backwards, away from the sound on her bottom. "No! I refuse!"

"It will come to be, just watch and see angel. You will pay."
