"I told y'all it'd be a bad ideer to higher a woman manager. I whatn't good enough for the damn job so they went and promoted that smart aleckie gal just so they could fill some damn corporate quota. Now, look at this mess. Where the hell is she."
The guys hanging around the time clock exchanged bits of conversation as they discussed the missing site manager.
All words dropped to silence as they stopped to stare at a stranger who rushed through the front entrance with shortly cropped, wine-colored, wavy hair several of them recognized from television but hardly ever recalled seeing locally.
They exchanged questioning glances aimed at identifying who she could be since no one like her lived around those parts. Wearing her city slicker get-up left the group in a daze as she flew by the men in a blur. An unmistakable image of money was placed on full display as the stranger jogged by the men ignoring the crew like they were of little importance to her. All that was left in the wake of her arrival was the sweet lingering scent of a perfume that pulled their eyes to follow her every move.
Prying eyes were further stumped watching as the stranger took a set of keys from the pocket on her backside she had promptly used to unlock the door to the site manager's office.
Since the site's dress code required that all employees wear uniforms—including the management team, every detail concerning her apparel stood out to the men because it contradicted the employees in every way.
The stranger wore a white designer t-shirt with a gold Nike emblem embossed on it drawing attention to her ample bosom. They were amazed to see a hint of pink or red clinging to the form underneath the somewhat sheer material that succeeded in supplying any lingering eye a peek at what lie underneath. Tight jet-black designer Capri jeans with gold embroidered pocket designs hugged her body, putting her voluptuous curves on full display for the onlookers. White tennis shoes with the same black and gold Nike emblem adorned her feet as the last piece of the outfit.
The short-styled red Pixie cut and the name-brand clothes screamed out to everyone that she most certainly was an outsider.
In their conservative minds, even though she was fully clothed, the young woman was damn near inappropriate for the office. The cloth draping her form covered her in a way that was quite erotic to the men who were hanging around as she raced to the other side of the door.
Since June had been out of the office for a longer time than could be excused when the stranger showed up at their remote location, the men whispered back and forward that the corporate office must have sent the young black woman to monitor things until a new boss was appointed to run the abandoned branch.
"Who the hell was that?" Mitchell asked as he walked into the main building just as the scene unfolded before the crew.
"Man, I don't have the slightest. I just saw her unlock the manager's door with a set of keys. Either she knows June, or she's someone from corporate." Donavan insisted.
"Where the hell is that idiot Zander? Even if June isn't here, his oddball-ass should be checking everything out to make sure no funny business is going on." Mitchell insisted with noticeable frustration creasing his brows.
June beating him out for the management position was a continuous source of piss and vinegar for Mitchell as he took note that she hadn't bothered to show up for nearly a week. As he thought about it, his boiling temper became evident to his co-workers.
"They hire a woman to lead this crew. She doesn't show up, and now this black bitch traipses her ass right on in the manager's office like she owns the damn place."
