﴾Introductions﴿"I know many of you wonder who I am and the reason for my sudden appearance." She stated to the employees from the front of the room.
"Yeah, we're trying to figure out why you just showed up and strolled right into the manager's office without so much as a good morning or go to hell," Mitchell spoke up as everyone else waited patiently to learn what was going on.
"I can understand and appreciate how this situation may be frustrating. First, I will introduce myself. My name is Jillian Elly Edwards. You may call me Jillian. I am the niece of Vincent Royce Edwards. My Uncle Vince and my Aunt Sophia adopted and raised me from the time I was five years old. I am the Director of Operations for V.E.Diamond. Unfortunately for me, I did not get my job through nepotism." She snickered at the little inside joke as she shared some of her personal experiences.
"My uncle was very insistent that I go to college and graduate. I attended Tulane and obtained my MBA with a specialty in Project Management. I was required to start from the bottom and work my way up through the ranks. I've cleaned the shop, worked on the line, driven a forklift, worked in every position from the foreman, supervisor, manager, and finally up to the site manager's position."
All the employees looked from one to the other. With such an impressive résumé, no one could argue against her since she had the legitimate qualifications to run the site.
"Now, that we have covered my experience, we can get to the 'meat and potatoes' of why I'm here. Last week, an end-of-the-day report wasn't sent from this location. Mr. Edwards receives those reports from each branch. Each report details the production rate and shipments broken down by every day. When a report is not received, a missed report alert is triggered in the corporate office. Mr. Edwards called to inform me of this occurrence. He attempted to reach your branch manager June, but he was unsuccessful." She explained as the crew members hung on her every word.
"So, why are you here?" Mitchell yet again.
"Typically, I am a troubleshooter. My uncle sends me to places in trouble to resolve their issues and work on safety plans with the team. Since your manager has disappeared, I will be acting as the site manager of this facility. Once a suitable replacement has been selected, I will, of course, go back to my office in Dallas, Texas. Until the time comes, I've planned some promotions to realign the staff. I'm counting on each of you to work diligently and closely with me to ensure this branch runs smoothly. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to visit me in my office, and I will be sure to get an answer for you. Now, we have lunch for everyone, and I'll make sure you receive one extra hour of overtime pay since we utilized your lunch break for this meeting today." She stated as the meeting came to a close.
The employees were dumbfounded as they glanced back and forward from one to another. Zander decided to break the tension seeing that no one moved from where they stood.
"Everyone, dig in. She ordered this food from Granny G's Restaurant and I know y'all greedy bastards ain't letting this good food go to waste." He challenged them as he fixed himself a plate and the rest of the crew fell in line.
After the speech, Jillian disappeared into the office. Zander made a plate for himself and her taking both plates with him as he headed back to the manager's office.
"You didn't get anything to eat." He stated once he entered her office. Jillian was busy going through and organizing paperwork. She had a cup of coffee and a bottle of water. Something held her attention as she focused on the work she was completing.
