﴾Don't Walk At Night﴿When they arrived at the sprawling one-story home, they were met by a coded lock on the door.
After a flurry of texts to her uncle, she'd retrieved the code for the lock. Jillian entered it with success on the first try. The small box opened to reveal a set of keys nestled inside. Upon entering the house, she expected to find it with an old dinghy smell in a structure that was cold and dusty. To her surprise, the lights worked and one nightlight was already turned on.
Jillian opened the door and found herself amazed at how clean and nicely maintained the house was. They walked farther inside past the foyer and headed straight into a large living room. Luckily, up-to-date furnishings and interior were carefully situated in every direction her eyes landed. It appeared that someone must have come to the house on a regular basis to clean it. The fact that there wasn't a centimeter of dust to be found anywhere assured her that the place had been kept up in the best way which worked out great for her.
"At least I don't have to worry about cleaning the place and airing it out." She whispered to no one in particular.
After the quick tour, Jillian was sure she had figured out where the most important necessities could be found. A few more things needed to be checked before she was finally able to get settled in the living room where they could relax and enjoy their late-night snack.
Zander's phone rang just before Jillian completed her inspection of the house.
"Is everything okay?" He questioned the voice on the other end of the line.
"There are no problems here mój syn/my son. But, It is late. When will you finish your work for the day?" The woman asked Zander with great concern layered in every word.
"Mamo/mom, we have a new boss. Since she is from the city, I will be assisting her to figure out how things are done here. I will ask her for a ride home when we are finished for the day." He assured his mother.
Jillian wrapped up her tour as her guest's conversation was about to come to an end.
"Call me if you need a ride. I insist that you mustn't walk around at this late hour. Anything might happen to you, so make sure you don't try to walk home moje szczęście/my happiness. Do you understand?"
The serious warnings of potential danger were a typical source of conversation between Zander and his mother.
She was always worried that some evil force might steal her son away. Zander often found himself amused with his mother's superstitions but that never prevented him from agreeing with her to make his life much easier. He assured her that he would not walk home just before he got off the phone.
"Is it possible for you to give me a ride home?"
Zander peered up to find that Jillian had just returned from the back of the house. He wanted to make sure he pleased his mother so she wouldn't freak out on him.
"I am so sorry. I've been so busy, I completely forgot that you need to go to your house as well. Do you think you can stay here tonight? I would hate to get lost trying to find my way back to this place and it's really late, now." A yawn escaped her lips as if to punctuate the reason behind her request.
"Sure, I can stay over. Let me text my mom. I wouldn't want her to worry about me. Oh, by the way, where would I sleep?"
"From what I saw, there are three bedrooms. I'll take the one at the very end of the hall on the left and you can take either of the other rooms of your choice." She yawned more frequently as she attempted to help him get settled.
