Chapter 2

I walked through the hall with my binder in my room. Time slowed down as I watched the humans scurry along in the hallway, some trying to get to lunch, others going to their next class. It was funny really.

But don't get me wrong. I really don't consider humans inferior, but I feel that they are something that needed to be studied. Obviously, I'm not just thinking of this because I'm a dragon. That's why humans have psychologists. While the most famous one where dragons, that's still not the point.

I mean the human mind and how it acts and reacts based on their social ranking is beyond anything that even dragons, and all their wisdom, can possibly comprehend.

Take me for example, I have purposely made myself an outcast of society. I take the form of a short chubby nerd, that no girl could want. The thing is, all dragons give off an aura that makes us, to all humans of the opposite sex, undeniably, sexually attractive.

But it seems that humans are able to counteract that desire with fear of also being socially outcasted. I mean who wants to be friends with someone who's dating that guy. And of course, like most things, there are the exceptions. But anyway, it's just completely fascinating.

I am suddenly knocked out my thoughts from something that's happening outside of my mind.

I noticed that I'm being lifted off the ground, and slammed into the locker by two of Max's friends, and Max is looking at me with beady red eyes.

You know I also find this situation quite fascinating as well. I have done nothing to him, yet he still feels the undying need to pick on me. Is it because I'm making myself appear smaller and a weaker target? Is he simply bullying me because he believes that he can?

I pull out of my thoughts to notice that I have just missed his monologue, and he was looking at me like he expected me to say something.

"I'm sorry, can you repeat that? The smell of you is making me deaf," I said scrunching my nose.

"Well, my fist is going to make you dead," he says reeling back his fist.

I almost busted out laughing.

I could have avoided that with no effort, but I decided to let him have it. I applied more fat to my face to cushion his fist, so it wouldn't shatter. You know humans. Fragile.

When his fist connected, I slammed the back of my head into the locker and feigned dizziness.

His friends threw me to the ground and I started to kick me.

"Ow, please stop. I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I barely managed to keep the sarcasm out of my voice. Now I know what your thinking. Where is the teacher? Either they're in there class teaching or off-duty for lunch.

"Oh, what do we have here?" I felt Max's hand reach for my right hand. He was about to grab my ring.

Max was very lucky that Adam showed up when he did. I would have killed Max before I let him touch this ring.

"Hey guys, why don't you back off? Now!" Adam said pushing all three of them away from me. He towered over their six-foot, with his six-foot-six.

"Stay out of this Maloan," Max said advancing on Adam.

Finally, the teacher of the classroom closest to our little showdown came out. "Boys," she said pushing up her glasses, "do we have a problem here?"

Max turned back went back to his "good little boy" act, "no ma'am. Just a little disagreement between friends."

"Uh-huh, I see," she said looking all five of us over. "Get to lunch, and let's not have this happen again."

"Yes, ma'am," he said with his two friends that had been silent up to this point. Then he and his friends left.

I and Adam went the other way.

"Dude, I don't know why you put up with his crap," he said.

Adam was the only one that actually knew and believed what I was. He saw me slay a dragon. I went back to how that happened in my mind.

It was when I first moved here. The place that I lived before was too populated, and I needed to hide after the incident.

I bought land and moved here by myself. It was a lot easier than you would expect it to be. I then enrolled myself for the last month of school to keep suspicion off. That was only a year ago. I spent the summer continuing the hunt. One of the surviving dragons of the nest I just cleared, came after me. We fought on my land. Lucky most of our battle was fought in human hand to hand combat that lasted days. I finally won when he made a fatal mistake and my sword took his head off. That still makes me sick.

What I didn't realize until after I won the battle was that Adam was there the whole time. He was there because he noticed me last year always sitting by myself, so he wanted to introduce himself before school started again. He watched me fighting someone that transformed from dragon into human and win.

Yea, that could have been a total disaster.

Lucky, he was completely thrilled to know that something like me existed in the world, and was envious of me. If only he knew the whole story. How all those years ago at the age of eleven, I was cast into a rage that still burns in my heart today. I remember it like it was yesterday.

My mother. Laying on the floor. So much of the pure golden blood. I come out of my thoughts and suck the tears back into my eyes before they sprang free.

I suddenly stopped dead in my tracks. I sniffed the air. I received the smell of burning leather. That smell might have meant something else, but I felt the power that wafted in with the smell.

Dragon.
