I don't know why I do this, I thought to myself as I looked at myself in the mirror. I was getting ready for school. No, I knew why I did this, go to school, but I don't know why I listen to the voice in my head that tells me to do it. No, I was lying to myself there too. The reason I listen to the voice is that it was the voice of my mother. She told me to go to school, get a human education, mingle with the humans. She always had a purpose for me. She wanted me to expose myself and join dragons and humans together. It was a plan that probably would have never happened, but in her mind, she fully believed it would. She was an amazing mother. I tried to turn my thoughts away, but it was too late. I thought of that night again. The same night she gave me the ring. My birthday. When I came down the stairs and saw her. So much blood.

"Why did he- Why would he-" I started to cry.

"Why did he kill her?!" I screamed as I punched my fist through the mirror and the wall behind it. I pulled my hand from the rubble of glass and cement to find it unscathed.

I looked at the damage. I punched a clean hole right through. "Dang it," I said aloud. At least my mind was off that night.

After I cleaned up the mess as best I could, for the time being, I left for school. Yes, I could have gotten there in second, but I enjoyed to walk.

A wave of power slapped me across the face. It was only there for a second, but I could tell in that short amount of time that it was a powerful dragon. Strangely whoever it was also very young. Like my age young.

I opened my senses to more power or a smell, but I received nothing. Whoever it was had the gift of Conceal, but you can't use your gift during dragon to human transformation.

Was there a dragon in town? Why would it be here? Is it after me? Is it just passing by? If it is stationed in town I will hunt it down, but there's no need to go on a wild goose chase for nothing.

I chuckled at the irony in my thoughts. I have gone on a wild goose chase ever summer since I was eleven.

I stayed on alert and made sure to seal my power tight. I always keep it sealed, but I had to be extra careful if there was a dragon nearby. If I were to release all my power at once, any dragon that got within sixty miles would be able to tell exactly where I was, and that would not be good.

When I heard the bell begin to ring across town, I used my speed and was in my seat before the bell finished ringing. Nobody saw me do this because this is high school, and nobody is in class until they have to be. Not even the teacher.

I tested my nose. I could identify nearly everyone in here by smell alone.

Flowers- Emmy

Ash- George

Ginger- Camilla

Musty leaves- Maxwell

Honey roast- Adam

I was mentally checking them off while I was looking down. I then smelt a smell unlike any other. A smell that I didn't recognize, and was so good I couldn't even explain it.

I looked it up to see the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. I grew up around dragons, who had a near perfect physical appearance, but no dragon I had ever seen came close to this. She was about three inches shorter than me, slim with thick curves, and had long blond hair.

Something was nipping at the back of my head, what if this is the dragon? But I didn't want to believe it.

Just looking at her. Oh God, what was this feeling? I knew what it was but I had never fully experienced it.

I opened my senses again. Not the faintest hint of power. If she was a dragon she had a very powerful gift of Conceal. No, this couldn't be the dragon. Why would she enroll in high school? Why would she be here?

I was so lost in thought that I didn't see her trying to get my attention.

"Uh, so sorry, what did you say?" I stuttered. Great I thought to myself, all it takes is a pretty girl soon to be Dragon King stutter.

"It's okay," she smiled. Stunning. And her voice was beautiful, "is this seat taken," she pointed to the seat on the left of me.

"Yes- I mean no- I mean-" I rambled before Adam, who was on the right of me saved me, "what he means is that nobody sits there, so you can."

She just smiled politely, "thank you." She lifted her hand to shake mine, "My name is, uh," I noticed a slight pause, "Emily."

I grabbed my hand and shook it, "I'm, uh, umm, I'm," God her hand felt so good in mine, "Ni-Nick." I realized I was still shaking her hand and let go. "Sorry," I smiled sheepishly. God what was happening to me.

I felt Adam starting to stand up to introduce himself. I turned my head toward him, gave him, a glare, and even let out a small growl. A warning. His face paled and he sat back down.

Unlucky that didn't keep the other males away. Max rolled his chair in front of Emily. I felt anger rise in me.

"Max," he said as if it explained itself. He grabbed her hand that was resting on his desk and touched it to his lips. I was about to strangle him when Adam rested his hand on my shoulder. He shook his head.

It turned out I didn't need to because Emily pulled her hand back, and she smacked him in the face. Hard. Everyone, who had filed in during my stuttering misfit looked at them.

"Do you have no respect? Animal," she wiped her hand on her jeans.

I kept down a fit of laughter.

"Maxwell, back to your desk," Mr. Kareus said.

Maxwell who was still holding his cheek growled at Emily. Before I could restrain myself, I let out a loud growl. A very loud, menacing growl.

Everyone looked at me.

"Sorry," I said and tucked myself behind myself. Eventually, everyone returned to their natural state, and Max returned to his seat.

Everything was normal except for Emily giving me a sideways glance every now and then. It turned out she also had second and third period with me. And she sat beside me every time. It was a good day so far, but there was still lunch and three periods to go.

I looked back at Max. I could tell he was waiting to blow off some steam, on my face.

The bell for lunch rang.
