Unfulfilled dreams (Poetry)

"You're not depressed, you're always smiling."

Faking a smile is easier than you might think, especially when the person that sees the disguise is as gullible as the rest.

"You're not depressed, you're always laughing."

Merely letting out a gust of air is one of simplest tasks someone could effectuate. While you hear me laugh, I'm internally cringing at myself. Some laughs may be more convincing than others, but they are still all fake.

"You're not depressed, you're always joking around."

Saying a few words is not very difficult in order to make someone laugh. Even though I'm slowly dying on the inside doesn't mean I want others to feel the same.

"You're not depressed, you don't hurt yourself."

If you looked a little closer, you'd see that the skin on my arms is laced with scars from days when I thought nothing was worth living for.

"You're not depressed, you've never attempted suicide."

You see, I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. Just because you weren't there watching me pour several pills into my mouth doesn't mean it didn't happen.
