Zoe rolls over in her bed and starts to take in her surroundings. She sees a hungover Sydney passed out on the couch. At least she's in her own bed, not back at that party.
Pulling a navy blue Colorado t-shirt over her head, she walks into the living room and opens the fridge. She realizes how they have nothing good in the fridge that's easy to make, so she grabs the watermelon sitting on the top shelf. Taking a knife from the knife block, she slices the watermelon in half.
After taking two grapefruit spoons from the silverware drawer, she pads over to the living room. She shakes Sydney awake, but Sydney just groans and rolls over.
"Sydney, you have classes in an hour and a half. Here's some watermelon, eat this and then take some advil." Zoe says, quieter than usual so that she doesn't harm Sydney's sensitive hangover.
Sydney looks up and takes one half of the watermelon, taking a spoon from Zoe.
"Grapefruit spoons may be made for grapefruits, but they work great for watermelon too." Sydney chuckles.
They both finish their half of the watermelon. Zoe takes the rinds and throws them away in the kitchen, before going back to small living room.
"Sydney, you have to get up. You have classes in an hour and that is a problem because your class is at least 15 minutes away, so you need to get ready," Zoe groans, pulling on Sydney's arm.
Sydney stands up and mumbles something about her head hurting before heading into the bathroom to take some advil.
Zoe walks into her room and looks through her closet, trying to pick out a shirt to wear. She decides on a plain black sweater. She throws it over her head and grabs a pair of light wash ripped skinny jeans out of her drawer. She then pulls her black laced vans.
After brushing through her hair and applying just mascara, she grabs her school bag and walks out the door.
Even though she has an off campus apartment, she still walks to her classes. Her apartment is right off campus and she has no problem walking. She could even run, thanks to the track and field she did from 6th grade to senior year in high school.
A nice short walk to her psychology class is just what she needed to get her mind to wander back to the party. She found herself thinking about the nice guy named Michael. He was perfect for her, but she didn't know his last name or phone number. She had no way to track him down.
She quickly shakes her head as she approaches the building her class is in. She needs to focus so that she can write her psychology paper. She really needed to pay attention in class so that she would know what to write about.
---
After hours of boring classes, it is time for Zoe to go to work. She shoves her notebook and her macbook into her bag and walks out of class, plugging her headphones into her ears. After listening to countless songs by All Time Low, she arrives at her work.
She worked at the college record shop, otherwise known as Dull Light Records. She opens the door and is greeted by the bell attached to it jingling. She nods at Eric, the guy who has the shift before her, telling him he can leave.
Zoe loves her job. The people who come to the store are some of the best people at this stupid college. She gets to listen to great music all day, and best of all, the hours aren't ridiculous.
She gets through her slow shift at the shop, selling a few records and CDs, and it's almost time for her to leave when a familiar face walks in. She recognizes him from the party.
The boy seems to recognize her too, because he walks up to almost immediately.
"Uh, hey. I'm Luke. We were both at that party the other night, right?" the blonde boy stutters.
"Uh, yeah. Hey, I'm Zoe."
"So, uh, you work at the record shop huh?" Luke asks, clearly just trying to make small talk.
"Oh, yeah. I love it here. It's so great. Can I help you find anything, like music-wise." Zoe chuckles out.
"Yes, um, I was looking for the 1975 vinyl. I just got a record player so I'm slowly buying vinyls. I already have a fuck load of All Time Low and Blink-182." Luke answers.
Zoe guides him over to the vinyls and find him the one he is looking for.
"Great, uh, so I'll just pay for it I guess." Luke mumbles awkwardly. Zoe noticed that he was quite awkward for someone as attractive as he is.
Zoe rings the slender record up.
"Your total is $18.32" Zoe says, smiling.
Luke hands over a $20 bill and smiles back. Zoe hands him back his change and waves as he walks out the door.
Luke stumbles out into the cold January air, shivering and pulling his leather jacket closer to his slender body. He walks the normal route back home, and walks in to his apartment to see Michael sitting on the couch playing video games.
"Mate, you'll never believe who works at Dull Light Records."
"Who?" Michael asks, not bothering to look up from his game.
"Zoe."
Michael's head snaps up at the mention of her name, and he starts to bombard Luke with questions. He learns that they are looking for more people to work there, and a plan pops into Michael's head.
He was determined to get that job and spend more time with Zoe.
