"I don't want to go to bed!"
It was after dinner and me and Maria were dragging our drunk sister up the stairs to her room. Dinner was quite the event even without Sophie. Daniel and his parents talked to me all night, well as much as we could with Sophie's yelling and talking about random topics.
"I wonder if frogs actually sing but we just don't understand them? I bet they have beautiful voices."
"Yes Sophie I will make sure to thank the frogs for singing tonight, will you please stand up straight?"
"No I will not!"
She shrugged out of our grasp with a hunched back and started walking clumsily down the hall.
"Frogs can you hear me!"
"I LOVE YOU! Don't you ever stop your singing!"
Me and Maria couldn't help but crack a smile at her ridiculous remarks about frogs.
"Come now Sophie you have to go to bed and for goodness sake stop yelling about frogs!"
She stopped complaining about her stupid frog rights petition and quieted down, but not without making a couple of what sounded like an actually frog singing.
Maria was carrying most of the weight which I felt bad about, but it was hard enough to walk without my older sister hanging on my burnt skin.
To be honest I was kind of mad that Sophie got drunk. It was irresponsible first off and it is just not the right time to be so childish, but I guess I can't really be mad at her everybody has different ways to deal with death and I guess that's hers.
She never seemed like the drinking type, but her and Janet were really close, closer then I've seen any siblings.
I opened Sophie's door and Maria pulled her on to her bed and covered her up as best as she could with the nonstop movement.
"She will be in a lot of pain tomorrow."
Maria and I quickly turned around where we saw Daniel leaning on the doorframe.
"For goodness sake Mr. Whitmer couldn't you have stopped by and helped us drag our sister to her room."
"I would have been glad to help Miss Dosept but your parents held me back and gave me the suitor speech."
He did his big toothy grin at me making me blush like a wallflower.
"If that is your excuse for letting a woman do the heavy hauling I expect a more thought out one next time." I said smiling sweetly.
"Maria maybe you should go back to your room me and Mr. Whitmer would like a private conversation."
"Ooohhh PRIVATE!"
I turned towards Sophie and scowled.
"Go to bed Sophie, Maria go to bed, and Daniel come with me."
"Hey Daniel!?!
"Yes Miss Sophie?"
"Do you believe that frogs sing, I believe it, do YOU believe?"
"You know Sophie? I do, I think they have one of the most beautiful songs."
"Seeeeeeeeeee Caroline! Your fiancé agrees with me!"
I felt the heat creeping up my neck turning my face red from embarrassment.
Maria slide out of the room at that note, wishing I could follow her but I knew I couldn't just leave Daniel with Sophie. Lord knows what else she will say to him.
